I need to write an argumentative paper for my college writing class and I have absolutely no idea what to write about. It has to do with global warming, and some point has to be argued. So give me some ideas, don't write a book, just some simple ideas that I can maybe form my own from, and do some research and such! Thank you soooooo much.

No offense to the answerers so far, but I would like to see good legitimate answers for this question. I can't really write a paper that says "global warming is balony"

Alright Global warming is due to enhanced greenhouse effect.
normally greenhouse gases keeps the earth temperature at a constant level. But when greeenhouse gases increase, more heat is trapped and lesser heat is released so this is called enhanced greenhouse effect which increases the earth's temperature. So this explains how the emission if CO2 and our temperatue is related and why its hotter these days.

Consequences of global warming
Low lying areas might flood due to the rise in sea levels especially in th carribeans and oher countries causings thousands of 'environmental refugees'
extreme weather : eg more hurricanes and stuff as this is fueled by warmer temperature.
Change in climate: we might have irregularities in the seasons like shorter winters, longer summers matter of fact it took a while last year to snow in NYC.

So well the botm line is this thing is a real threat so for repubs
it can cost more lifes than "terrorists" (in Bush's words)

The greatest increase "man made pollutants" in history took place in the industrial revolution, yet during the 40's-70's the fear was global cooling, not warming.

Why is everyone speaking of the North ice cap shrinking but ignoring the south cap growing?

Why are some historical records of sea passages being used by ships in areas now frozen not being considered as evidence that it may just be normal earth cycles?

Why is it that the "experts" that claimed such a terrible year for hurricanes last year and were dead wrong can be trusted to determine weather patterns for years to come?

It's a natural cycle of the earth. It's been both hotter and colder in our history. Many think it needs to get warmer to get back to normal again. After all, Greenland used to not be covered in snow and grapes were grown in Northern England centuries ago. It's too cold for that now.

In the 70's everyone was worried about the earth going into an ice age. What's sad is that real science takes a back seat to all the political hysteria.

In the 1930's it was even hotter than it is today.

The global warming models are just predictions that have never proven anything really. It's hard to say what's best to argue here. There are books that show how it's just a natural cycle and then there's Al Gore's book. Most of his "facts" have been disputed.

Take any side you want and look for the science that supports that side. But don't be fooled by the misconceptions, like glaciers melting or polar bears decreasing. Both of those are lies: Glaciers are actually increasing in the south pole, and polar bears are increasing in numbers.

Global warming presents us with some fantastic opportunities. We just need to be brave enough to grab them, and run like hell.

This week, we look at some of the good things about global waming, and what it means to you.

A sea-side home for every mountain-dweller
With temperatures soaring, people won't burn fossil fules to heat their houses.
No need to retire to Florida. The warmer climate is coming to you.
Bangladesh was a ****-hole anyway.
Lots of fresh, clean drinking water as the ice caps melt.
Girls will wear skimpy clothes even in winter.
No more of those annoying penguins dancing all over the place.
"Living underground" will no longer imply you're a spy.
You'll be able to grow tropical fruit in your own bedroon, even if you live in Alaska.
Your friends wont be able to brag about their ski trips to the Alps.
No more lost mittens.
You'll have an excuse to eat ice-cream all the time.
Al Gore will stop lecturing us all, and just say "I told you so."
It will be too hot to exercise, so being a couch potato will be socially acceptable.
Dying and going to hell will make for a cool change.
Humans will have empathy with dinosaurs
Kevin Costner's film "Waterworld" will seem remarkably insightful, instead of just being remarkably awful

All i know is that it was 93 degrees last week in Texas. Its the middle of October and we still have summer heat. If that doesn't show for something going on with the environment i dont know what to think.

It's a hoax so the Democrats can force their way into office. I think it's happening, but it is a natural pattern. We are just accelerating it, but it is inevitable. Most of it is just Democrat propaganda, I'm not buying god awful boring hybrids. Heck, diesels are more fuel efficient and I won't fall asleep at the wheel from boredom.

Despite what the conservative talk show hosts say, it is clear that global warming is reality. Humans are far too selfish to turn things around. Mother Earth will take care of herself. It's human who are in big trouble.
