everyone else in your circle has brainwashed and indoctrinated you into believing evolution?
Do you think for yourself? Are you a scientist who has researched this yourself (If you actually are, just ignore this question)?
Why do some of you use this baseless line of reasoning to bash beliefs of Christians? Can't you think of something more 'logical' and scientific?

Modern day Christians also have little dispute about it.

Everyone: I am not debating creation vs. evolution in this question. I'm only saying that just because it's in a book (Bible or textbook),one (on both sides of the issue) should do one's own study of the issues, not believe everything they read.
I am neither a scientist nor a theologian. From what I have studied and surmised by my own self, I believe in science, evolution and the Bible.
Thanks to everyone who took time to answer.

My dear seahock. If you think this question is "spewing hate" you must be new here and have a lot to learn about R&S. Really, it's really mild.

So, basically what you’re saying is that in order to have an opinion on any particular matter, you must know ‘everything’ about it. Have you stopped to consider the reality that even scientists, as knowledgeable as they are, have only scratched the surface of the underlying knowledge that is still waiting to be discovered? I don’t claim to know a lot about creationism or evolution, but I have learned enough about both to form an opinion that I am comfortable with. Can you name an example of how believing in evolution has ever caused harm to another human or any species of life for that matter? Religion is harmful in countless ways and I’m not just talking about Christianity. Islam is just as bad. There are many others that are also harmful, but these two are the most prevalent so I name them. If you have not heard of the atrocities I’m referring to, then you are too out of touch to reach in the time I am willing to spend on this illogical line of questioning.

To be fair, your reasoning is not sensible. If atheists believed in an old book - Darwin's Origin of Species for example, there have been a lot of things about that that have been proven incorrect. The same thing could be said of the Bible. It is an old book that may not be correct. The atheists however have moved on to current theory while many Christians are still referring to the Bible for answers. I am not saying that's a bad thing, but there is a lot in the Bible that is very strange and probably written for a different time for a group of people who had lesser of an understanding of the world around them.

My question is if you believe why isn't that enough? If every theist said "I believe, I don't need proof and you can not believe if you like." Then this part of YA would dry up and disappear.

Although you ask the question facetiously I actually agree with it and wish everyone would study what they are talking about. I suspect that would also make this section dry up.

I've done my share of study into evolution and it's very compelling. However I don't base my life on it.

I've also done my share of study of what people now call the bible. In college I took ancient Greek and Hebrew/Aramaic and read much of the available original documents that have gone into the 'bible.' My question to any theist is, If you're going to base your life on a document why not read it?

>> Do you believe everything you read?

Absolutely not. I take no truth as absolute.

>>Just because everyone else in your circle has brainwashed and indoctrinated you into believing evolution?

No, because it is the most plausible explanation.

>>Why do some of you use this baseless line of reasoning to bash beliefs of Christians?

Because many things make no sense and are closer to fairy tales than facts. Like 2 humans *poofing* into existence and eating a magic apple containing the One Ring and waking Sauron to. While Gandalf split the sea in two and freed the people of... oops, wrong story.

>>Can't you think of something more 'logical' and scientific?

Plenty, but it's just too much fun to bash nonsense :-)

Yes, I've actually replicated the Miller-Urey experiment, including some mild updates with refined information abount prebiotic Earth.

I've actually conducted genetic experimentation with Drosophila melanogaster which produced two lines no longer capable of breeding -- technically a case of speciation.

When I describe these things to people, I encourage them to ask questions -- I don't want them to take my word for it.

So, turnabout logic -- why should I believe in Christianity just because of what's written in a book when I've never seen a single thing to support it?

and if everybody did what you are telling them to do then the advancements we have wouldnt exist. we work off the work of others. that work has been gone over again and again to make sure it is good. once something is found to be false and something else found that works better then the latter is picked up and the first is thrown away. do you discount evolution (a scientific theory) because of what you read in an old book without question?

'Bashing' and 'criticizing' are pretty different, if you ask me. We don't act like monkeys, and spew out hate towards others we don't agree with.

And yes, I've researched the theory of evolution. Pretty thoroughly, actually. I'm taking biology in 10th grade right now, and we're learning about evolution. It holds more ground than silly fantasies like creationism.

Evolution is based on tangible evidence like fossils and observation in microorganisms that points to animals adapting to their environment and changing their structure.

Modern day scientists have little dispute about it. It is not 2,000 years old and has credible evidence.

Try and research it before you go bashing. It at least makes you appear semi-smart at first glance./

Your turn-about logic is very flawed... Please do some research of your own then return with a valid, thoughtful, relevant question...

I will give you a hint... Start by researching what the word Atheist means.... Hint it has nothing to do with believing in evolution...

Actually, I had not researched on this, as it is not my field of study. However, I had some ex-colleagues who are experts in the field and did some research on it. I had seen some of their work which provide some logical proof of concept.
