Are you thinking Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus...or more commonly known as MRSA? It starts as negative MRSA which can be a pimple or boil or something. If not taken care of properly it turns into MRSA which can be extremely painful and very serious. It's the most common of skin bacterias and staph infections. It's usually what athletes get.

The bacterial organism is Streptococcus pyogenes, old name Group A Streptococcus. The sydrome is called Necrotizing Fasciitis. This is the same bacterium that causes Strep Throat. Necrotizing Fasciitis is due to the organism producing several enzymes and toxins that allow for rapid penetration into tissue. It requires rapid diagnosis and treatment. Destruction of large amounts of tissue can lead to deformity of death. There are cases every year in the US.

It is staph aureus but doesn't have to be MRSA, it is just a very aggressive form of a common bacteria.
