The answer is assuming that the asker is Christian.
God didn't give animals souls. If God had then they would have need of salvation just as humans do but in all the bible (that I have read) I have not once seen any mention of salvation for animals. They have been possessed, sacrificed, deemed unclean, eaten, forbidden from being eaten, gathered, released, made into symbols, even worshiped by people in the bible but never has anyone spoke of God or Jesus bringing salvation for animals.
Specifically to ybennoach.
In the KJV there a total of three scriptures that mention the phrase "living soul"
-Gen 1:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
-1 Cor 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
-Rev 16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
You were probably referring to the scripture in Genesis but mixed up the translation. FYI the KJV was actually translated directly from Hebrew (old testament) and Greek (new testament) into old English. In addition I can back up what I found with a bible concordance that gives definitions of the Hebrew and Greek words used in the original text.

I don't think cats would be happy in heaven (I have 2). They might like the birds there, but I'm not sure about all those big bad dogs.

Actually, though I'm not a Christian I think that the arguments you will find here will mostly be backed up Biblically, the Judeo-Christian Bible says, in Genesis, that God gave every creature on earth a "living soul." And I've translated that from the Hebrew, so no NIV or KJV absurdities there. It should say the same thing in both of those, however.

Yes, I believe animals go to heaven. Although they don't have souls (technically), I believe that because on this earth they made people happy, part of those people's soul are connected to the animal (e.g. "Snowball will always have a special place in my heart.") and that they will be waiting for us when we get to heaven. I've had several animals die and I believe they're waiting for me in Heaven.
P.S. I'm Catholic Christian.

they say animals have no soul...how would they know? but the bible does say that god is able to do above all the things that you may ASK or THINK, so if you went to heaven, im sure it would be granted to you in any event.
