Dear Miss Iowa,

TRICARE is the US armed service's health care plan for active duty personnel and eligible family members, retirees and family member younger than age sixty-five.

It is partnered with civilian and military hospitals and clinics.

Developed from the CHAMPUS Reform Initiative in 1988,
TRICARE Standard as the same benefits and cost structure as the original CHAMPUS program.

TRICARE's objectives are accessibility and affordability by

Improving overall health care access for beneficiaries
Better access to civilian health care
more choices, more services, and controls rising health care costs.

TRICARE is administered by a regional basis.

There is eleven of them in the US and worldwide.
Each one is directed by a military officer called a lead agent or director and is responsible for the planning, operation and execution of that region's health care system.

There are three TRICARE plans.

Standard, Extra, and Prime.
Standard cost the least with the least amount of coverage.
Extra costs extra for extra coverage.
Prime is, well, is just the prime plan of them all.

To receive Extra or Prime, the individual must live in an area where these options are provided, military or civilian.

TRICARE covers medical and psychological services that are considered appropriate care and usually accpected by qualified, reasonable, health care professionals for diagnosis and treatment of illness, injury, pregnancy, mental disorders or well child care.

Meaning if you are looking for breast implants or a sex change, you can forget it.

If you really want to learn more about TRICARE and how it works, then ask about CHAMPUS maximum allowable charge, Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System DEERS TRICARE Management Activity, Prime Remote, remote assignment, catastrophic cap, primary care manager, nonavailability statement (NAS) TRICARE For Life, Supplemental Insurance (such as medicare), and XPressClaim.

Hopes this helps.

Sincerely,
Mike
