I think you will find that most Baptists either use the King James or the New International Version.

I don't know about Baptists. I am a member of the church of Christ. Where I attend, I would say the most popular versions are King James Version, New King James Version, and New International Version.

I own a few different versions like, 21st Century King James Version, English Standard Version, Holman Christian Standard Bible, King James Version, New American Standard Bible, and the Third Millennium Bible (New Authorized Version).

To bama_jld: I would have to agree, I've never found the Baptist church mentioned in the Bible. For that matter, I've never found the Catholic Church mentioned either...

I've never found the Baptist church mentioned in any translation of the Bible.

The Bible only makes Christians. To learn how to become a Baptist you will have to look elsewhere.

As for good Bible versions, choose one that is as accurate to the original manuscripts as you can find. Two versions that are considered to be among the more accurate are the New American Standard Bible and the English Standard Version.

I use the ESV most often. From what I understand, the translators of the ESV took the Revised Standard Version, a translation that many consider to be very reliable, and they went through it word by word, comparing it to the available ancient manuscripts and making changes in the translation to make it more accurate.

An NIV or NLT would be appropriate, but i personally(and I have read a LOT of bibles) would get a New KJV. It's a really wonderful translation.

But get what most people in your church use, it will be a lot easier to follow.

Most use the KJV but some prefer the NIV.
