It does take some time to feel better. You just had a person yanking something that had been rooted into your mouth out. It is suppose to hurt; but it will get better. Try gargeling with warm salt water and take some ibuprofren for the pain and swelling if the doctor didn't give you something. Hang in there, it will get better.

Having worked for an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for several years there are several things that could be causing your problem. First of all, four days post-op it is pretty normal to still have some pain. Secondly, you still should not be eating foods that require a great deal of chewing and be sticking strictly to a semi-soft diet ( usually a week to ten days) until this pain subsides. Thirdly, you want to make sure that you rinse( don't swallow) your mouth with warm salt water several times a day to assist in reduction of inflammation that comes with such procedures. Last but not least soft foods will be less likely to get packed into the surgical extractions sites and cause pain and loss of the blood clot that forms in the extraction socket. If this pain gets more severe it could be a condition called a "dry socket" and it would be necessary to see your surgeon for him to determine if this is the source of the pain you are experiencing. Good luck and hopefully you will feel much better soon.

Your mouth just went through some major trauma. Try not to chew directly where the teeth were pulled until your gums are completely healed, and even then, you'll have some discomfort. This is perfectly normal...not to worry.

Dry socket is exactly what it sounds like to me. I got two when I got my wisdom teeth out (they were pulled late, and I was a smoker who didn't listen to the advice given me and smoked right away, and paid for it later!) May want to contact your dentist, or oral surgeon's office for any recommendations.

I had all 4 of mine removed a week ago and I'm still experiencing pain. And I have seen my oral surgeon twice since the extraction for follow ups and further treatments. This is not fun at all.

It is totally normal, it can take up to a couple weeks before the pain is completely gone. keep your mouth clean, rinse with the salt water, take the ibuprofen...Trish is right on with her suggestions. Hope you feel better soon.

Your mom's right. It didn't kill you, and you'll get over it.
Do what the dentist told you to, and you'll be fine.
