Mecca is Islam's holiest site.
Jerusalem is Judaism's holiest site, and it is not mentioned in the Quran at all.
In fact, some Muslim scholars claim the Quran says Israel belongs to the Jews:

Muslims pray in the direction of Mecca therefore Mecca is the holy land for Muslims and the religion of Islam. But Jerusalem holds a special place for Muslims as well as Jews which Israel is a part of and is the Jewish holy land.

Mecca is Islams Holy Land as mentioned in the Koran. Israel is the Holy Land of the three religions that count Abraham as their forefather. Judaism, Christianity, Islam.
That said they pray to Mecca and Jews pray to Israel.
I know a lot of you will disagree with this, but I do think Israel has become only this popular (by extremist) Muslims in the past 75 years or so... I think a lot of the (extremist) Islamic holy people use it more so as a way to urge more terrorist acts, etc. Yes it's a holy site, not their holiest and not enough for senseless hatred and killing!
Check out this site, my fave. It has a lot of news and info about Israel. www.virtualjerusalem.com

Israel and Jerusalem weren't important to Muslims until the Zionist movement began restoring the land and building wealth there.
Before WWII, the Arabs insisted that there was no such thing as Palestine (a place name only associated with Jews), that all the land in question was part of Syria.

It's Palestine. Jerusalem, Mecca and Medina are the three holy cities of Islam. ALLAH(SWT) said the Muslims will get Palestine back before the Day of Judgment.

Mecca is the primary holy site for Muslims, but there are several other locations that are considered very holy, such as sites in Jerusalen and Medina.

Actually both and more. All the land where the prophets walked and spread the message of God is 'holy land' (though personally I don't like the term 'holy land').
