He's not van gough, It's Vincent van Gogh.
His concept was making a painting. He was a raw painter who painted what grabbed his attention. The potato eaters is a bit different in this. He actually did several versions of this painting and many detail studies are known. He tried to capture the miserable and destitute circumstances of poor people who had nothing more to eat than the potato's they grew themselves.
