Bamboo is cheaper than Oak because it is faster growing. Bamboo is naturally much softer but for flooring it is compressed by running it between rollers at high pressures to mak it harder.

It's a choice not that one is better than the other. Bamboo is a new flooring choice. Hardwoods have obviously been around forever. I think flooring choices are about the area of the country you are living in and what works best in those climates. If you live in an area where bamboo or hardwoods could work, you have to decide which you like better for your use. Ask a lot of questions through your builder or supplier. This is always your best option when you are making a major design decision.

Bamboo is very, very hard. Most bamboo flooring out there is usually pre-finished. If not, most finshers do not like to work on them because of more materials needed. Oak is readily available in different widths and qualities. Oak is more cost effective and more readily available and much easier to finish. Bamboo is not cost effective, but it is a look all its own.

Bamboo flooring is a renewable resource, and comes in a blond color or a nice teak color (heat-treated). It's very durable. I don't like the pre-finished hardwood flooring because it often has chamfered edges on the boards.

well, for one, oak is out dated.. honestly. bamboo is a renewable green material and grows at a fast rate so when the plants are cut to harvest the wood, they regrow super fast, unlike oak. Keep in mind, bamboo is a hard dense material EXCEPT the top layer. you HAVE to have a top varnish layer put on or get one prefinished otherwise the second you drop your keys or anything it will dent and scratch. I have put bamboo in clients homes and they love it, but I had it in mine and hated it (except it was super pretty)....

The bamboo is eco friendly and when it comes to selling your home that sometimes will strikes the buyers eye too.
