It is a dead horse---Catholics know that it is Faith that saves us and the Protestants should know and I don't think they realize this but---the works that are done through the Faith is no longer our works but, the works of Christ Jesus in us. So it is not our works that we think are saving us but Jesus that is doing the works.

Arguing whether "faith" or "works" is more important is like arguing which blade in a pair of scissors is more important.

There is some truth to that, however, I would have worded it different Really it is only your last line I don't agree with and the statement about Catholics and Protestants. I myself am a non-denominational Christian. I would have said ...... Our faith in Jesus Christ makes us new and as a natural result of that faith and grace given to us, Christ Jesus works through us for the will of God. We are saved by our faith in Jesus Christ for our salvation and by his grace. Because we are made new and the Holy Spirit lives within us, we do works as Jesus would.

You made it sound like the works save at the end of your paragraph, regardless if it were alone or through Jesus. How did you mean it?

Hi Midge! Been a long time.
As a Protestant Evangelical, I agree with your whole statement, with reservations on what might be meant by the last few words. I believe works are a necessary result of faith: faith that does not produce works is not real faith (yes, for some, that falls under the "not a real Christian" argument!).
On the other hand I believe the works in themselves contribute nothing to salvation - at the same time if there are no works it is because there was no salvation.

Revelations 20
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Catholics feel that its only works and good deeds... basically you don't even have to believe in God, as long as your a good person and occasionally admit your sins in confessions then your good to go to heaven.
