How Does Aerosol Spray Affect the Environment?

In the 80s Spray Cans were pressurized with a gas that contained Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). CFCs were found to dissolve the protective Ozone Layer that surrounds our atmosphere. Without the Ozone layer, certain damaging rays from our sun make it to earth and causes global warming and skin cancer (etc...)
Most spray cans in the USA no longer contain CFCs.

Aerosol Sprays And The Environment

It is funny but the renditions that you have so far received are what was preached to the general public by the environmental extremists. True enough, Fluorocarbons destroy ozone but not so true was the giant leap that they were causing damage to the earth's protective ozone layer. You see, one feature seldom discussed about fluorocarbons is that they are much denser than air. They do not rise up into the atmosphere but rather pour down onto th ground like a liquid. Once there they were quickly consumed by microorganisms.

When you factor in that the prevailing weather patterns are caused by warm air rising over the equator and flowing north to the pole in the northern hemisphere and south to the south pole in the southern hemisphere you soon realize a glaring inconsistency.

The famous "ozone hole'' we were told was being caused by fluorocarbons was not over the north pole but over the south pole. There is very little in weather patterns that would cause any fluorocarbons to migrate from the USA to Antarctica; certainly not in any significant numbers. No countries in the Southern hemisphere or Central America for that matter stopped the use of flurocarbons.

So what was causing the "ozone hole?" . As unexciting as it seems it is a perfectly normal phenomena. You see the Sun produces ozone when it shines on the atmosphere. In Antarctica, the days are six months long. The sun (weak as it is at the poles) shines without setting for six months there and new ozone is created. Then the area remains dark for the next six months causing the ozone levels to decrease. That is all there is to it.

It served its purpose for the environmental extremists, an industry was unnecessarily strained by empty claims and now the extremists have moved on to the next environmental disaster scenario, global warming. Of course, a good lie can travel half way around the world before the truth gets its pants on. So by the time this theory is disproved, many new restrictive regulations will be in place and industries squeezed or destroyed and capitalism will be dealt another blow. Then, there will be a new crisis.

Perhaps our MP3 players will be causing earthquakes. Let's wait and see.
