Then what do you think the mark of the beast is going to be? What is is going to be like? You don't think the government is going to enforce it? When is it coming (as far as before the rapture or after?) Do you think that we as Christians are going to have to endure alot or do you think we will be spared all the hardships? It is amazing speaking to those around me how many different ideals people have....... What is your opinion?

From my understanding the chip is being implanted in the hand right now and it is to buy or sell along with many other things. It is not only in the united states Europe and I think Canada. I'm not sure who else but we aren't the only ones. It will be available here for everyone on May 12 2008 but I am not sure if they are going to try to enforce it for a while....

To my understanding of the rapture yes the rapture is coming before it is enforced. Possibly even before it is offered everything else is in place isn't it?

Hmm...I hate - I mean I really hate - to give any credence to prophecies of doom, but if something like "The Beast" existed, and had to fulfill the prophecies of Revelation, then the RFID chip would be (no pun intended) a handy little bit of kit to get that whole "Mark" thing sorted.

I work for a membership organisation in the UK for people including positioning and location companies, and I'm here to tell you that RFID is a relatively stable technology over here, and not just in the States. What's more, from what my American wife tells me, we're muuuuch further along the route towards the "cashless" society over here. We've just seen the launch of a plastic card that has a chip that controls three functions - credit, cash from an ATM and travel on public transport. RFID tracking is in place for freight, and has been seriously suggested by a British Science Minister as a method of keeping track of elderly people with Alzheimer's. I personally have interviewed company CEOs who have plans to introduce tracking for children (You don't technically need their permission to track your child). Add the debate over biometric passports and ID into the mix and what you have are three strands of "convenience" technology, which will converge relatively soon (nothing like the 30 or 40 years predicted by a previous answerer). And it's unlikely anyone will have a choice. I wanted a choice before our banking system went to "chip-and-pin" technology, but we weren't given one. On the biometric debate, our government has said it will enforce economic penalties on those who do not submit biometric data fro the ID card.

In this way, three convergent technologies will provide easy access to your money, easy access to travel, easy purchasing power. They will also of course, have an anti-terror dimension - alowing people to be tracked, identified, their movements known by remote observers. What more would any "Beast" need?

As I said, I'm an atheist and I don't believe in the inevitable approach of Armageddon. All I'm saying is that if you're looking at technological ways for it to play out, you're probably not looking at as much time left as you think you are...

The "mark" is something that will be implemented at some point during the Tribulation period described in Revelation. This will occur after the rapture of Christians, and after the anti-Christ has assumed power, been assassinated, and been resurrected. No one will be required to take the mark. Scripture says that some will refuse, and they'll be unable to buy food as a result. It appears that this is an economic change, possibly associated with a change to a global currency. The RFID chip can certainly accomplish the things that the mark is supposed to. But there are other, more advanced technologies already available, and more coming. Biometrics can read the arterial pattern in the back of your hand with an infrared camera, and identify you as uniquely as a fingerprint can. The same holds true for the blood vessel patterns in the retina, the structure of the face, and more. When you consider that the RFID chip can potentially be removed and passed to someone else, it seems to me to be less likely to be chosen for this global identification system than other unique identifiers within the growth patterns of our own bodies that cannot be modified. Regardless, if you're a Christ-follower, you're wasting your time by worrying about this.

I do think eventually an RFID chip like Veripay will be the Mark of the beast. The main specifications for the Mark are that it allows you to "buy and sell."
The gov. will enforce it eventually, but I doubt within the next 20 years...
Rapture or not I will not be getting any Mark that I buy or sell with!
I don't count on a rapture- but it would be nice:)

now, this chip, is it world wide by now or is it still only in the states? and doesnt it have to be a worldwide mark for everyone on earth? eventually i could see it being forced upon people probably in the distant future for the states and the VERY VERY distant future for the rest of the world. like 30 or 40 years. isnt the rapture or armageddon supposed to happen before then?
