I am thinking about having Lasiks done. Are there any risks and is it a good thing to do? Has anyone ever done it? I have been wearing glasses/contacts since I was about 7. I found a place near my hometown that does Lasiks and I'm just concerned about the pros and cons.

I considered Laser eye surgery myself when i grow up...
pros.
better vision.. duh..
20 20 vision
no more glasses or contact lenses
life changing experience
Hundreds of thousands of people have had Lasik, most very successfully.
LASIK is by far the most prevalent and safest refractive surgery procedure
Cons.
really..REALLY..expensive.
Some people[ SOME...] vision's didin't improve.. it got worse.
risk of permanent damage to vision
one in six people end up with worse eyesight.
after surgery.. you could be seeing double's andf triples...
some people have colour contrast.. they can't drive.
If you have Lasik to correct your distance vision, you'll still need reading glasses around age 45.
*Most insurance does not cover the surgery.
Also...
The Lasik procedure is not recommmended for anyone who is:
• is under 18
• is pregnant
• has a history of eye disease
• has extremely large pupils (bigger than 7mm can cause problems with Lasik)
• has very thin corneas
• has very... strong prescriptions
I hope you make the right decision..
i would love to get eye surgery..
GOOD LUCK

There are more and more insurance companies that are starting to pay at least a portion of if not most of the costs for lasik. You need to check with your insurance company.
It is a surgery and with any surgery there are always risks but as long as you research the procedures and your surgeons you will be better off. Also, spending on your age and overall health of your eye you may want wait. ( if you are under eighteen for example)

Another con to this procedure is that you can get results that don't last. You may have 20/20 vision now but it might change in another five to ten years. My prescription has fluctuated somewhat over the years. I have decided not to have LASIK done due to my age. It would correct my distance vision but I would still need reading glasses. That to me is unacceptable because I would only be swapping one problem for another. The other option of correcting only one eye and leaving the other unchanged is also unacceptable. This is frequently offered as an alternative for older people and I wonder how many of them go for it.

Yep. Scheduled for surgery next week. My insurance doesn't pay but gets 20% discount. I use mono vision with contacts since I am myopic (both near and far sighted). So I'm having one eye done.
Went to 2 different doctors. One charged more than the other but both are "custom" surgery, meaning the eye was photographed and measured in a special camera. It will map the eyes unevenness and make the adjustment.
Both doctors recommend glasses for driving at night to give a little extra help.
If you have Flex plan at work it will save you a bundle.

I have a friend that had his done. It was back when it cost 2000.00 per eye. Said the only thing was his eyes watered for a couple of days. He also said it was the best money he ever spent and if he had it to do over again he'd do it in a heartbeat.
I'm saving to have it done myself. Thank goodness the prices have dropped!

There are risks involving laser eye surgery. I suggest you read information on this website:
http://www.lasiksucks4u.com/
You may be interested to know that there is an alternative treatment for bad vision called natural vision correction. It consists of specific eye exercises and techniques that can improve your eye sight and it's completely safe. I used to be myopic (-1.00 D) with slight astigmatism and was able to improve my vision completely with these exercises.
Eye exercises require persistence, but they are worth every bit of it.

think before you do it, i know you probably really want it done, but your eyes are very important! You must look up the company you want to use for reviews.
Dont go into it without being 100% sure

Depends on the skill of the doctore, it should be done only if you are 21 and the number is constant. From http://eye-care.in
