do you really care what a bunch of strangers think? it is your body. do what you want. in my opinion though, if you want to honor your grandfather get the tattoo and include his name and vietnam vet in it, then people would know what it is about.

Sarie, there are people who wear cowboy hats and don't know the first thing about a horse let alone ride one - in many ways, personally against tattoo's, by having your grandfathers unit insignia tattooed on you - you would be honoring his unit and I would suppose your granfather as well - I'm also a proud Vet.

I am a Vietnam Vet. Personally, I don't care what you do... I think tattoos are rather moronic.
But I'll defer to the disabled Vietnam Vet. Your objective should be to honor all the Vets... not just your grandfather... and I think if one feels dishonored, that should be enough. Based on that, I wouldn't do it.
So, if you're looking for approval to screw up your appearance, I'll vote no.
Now, if you join the military.. become a paratrooper,.. then you can really honor your grandfather... then you can even get a dumb tattoo.

obviously you are a woman who can not serve as an infantry paratrooper. I see nothing wrong with you getting the tattoo in honor of your grandfather. I'm sure your not going to run around and brag about how many people you killed in vietam while you were with the unit.

I think it would be a meaningful tribute and much more unique than just his name or even portrait would be.
On the off chance that someone took offence I dont see what they would have to say when you responded "My grandfather served in this unit from 19- to 19- and I have chosen this tattoo to honor his memory and his sacrifice for the nation he chose to protect!"

If you want to get a unit tattoo it is wrong and disrespectful to the men who actually served in it to wear the insignia they fought to protect.

Personally, I think so. But if you had his photo tattooed on you with his insignia as part of the tat, then no.
But just to have the insignia, yes, I find that disrespectful.

Is this something you'd like to do. Will you still feel the same way in 10 years? If "no" then don't do it.
it is a long, painful process to get rid of a tattoo.
