My mother-in-law out in rural Pennsylvania just had an unexpected suprise !

Her beagle just gave birth to a litter of 8 puggles ! The next farm over's pug got loose one day, we guess.

Anywho - I used to breed pugs and know they have a bunch of health issues (respiratory, hips, eyes), but do puggles have the same issues ? Or does the beagle cancel most of it out ?

Respiratory for example - does the longer snout on the beagle counteract the breathing issues a pure-bred pug would have ?

I ask because I want to fly back and get one (we had to put my pug down 5 months ago for health reasons), but cannot afford $5000 vet bills like we had w/ the pugs - which is why I used to breed and no longer do.

I own a puggle and have met dozens of other puggles, and none of them have the breathing problems or other health problems associated with the pug. I'm not saying every puggle won't, but it is highly unlikely. The beagle characteristics take care of this. They can howl like a beagle, but this will be much more muffled than a purebred beagle. They tend to be very energetic and hyper as puppies, but start to mellow out around 1 year of age. They are great dogs. The get along very well with other dogs and children.

Hope this helps!

The mixes are healthier than the pugs, but not as healthy as the beagles. Beagles are a sturdy little breed even though they are so overbred. As cute as pugs are, I have to say that most of them that I have ever seen have a problem or two.

Impossible to say with a cross breed. Some puppies will be more like the dam, some more like the sire. Some will have a pug's respiratory issues and some won't. Some will bay like a beagle and some won't.

Since it is a MUTT, you can not predict what helth issues it will have. One breed does not cancel out another. A puppy can look more like a Pug, or like a Beagle. It can have some health problems of Pugs, and some of Beagles. It can have behavior traits like Pugs, or like Beagles, or some of both.
It is a roll of the dice and each pup in the litter and can totally different from each other in looks, health, and behavior.
