I've had a severe headache for 2 days, and it won't go away, even after taking Tylenol, Advil, and Exedrin. It's so bad... I'd probably go to the hospital if I could afford it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I took a muscle relaxer, along with Benedryl, and a Valium. My head still aches a little bit, but it's much more tolerable today. I'm thinking that this was caused by a combination of allergies & stress.

My friend, I am going to tell you a very short story. My neighbor, Joe, is 61. He walked around with a headache like you described for 1 week. Within the next few days Joe passed away. Joe had a massive brain stroke. Whenever you have a headache longer than 2 days, you are to go to the hospital, it is an EMERGENCY. You need a cat scan of your head with contrast and non-contrast dye to see what is going on. I will also tell you that I too had a stroke at the age of 41 and I too had a massive headache that lasted 2 days and I could not take it any longer. I called a friend to take me to the hospital. I was in hospital for 10 days. Nothing to mess with, headaches that last longer than 2 days. I hope I have impressed you enough to go to the ER and get checked out, who knows, I may have saved your life and I pray I did. By the way, don't worry about the bill. Medicaid will pick it up and you will not have to worry about anything but to get healthy again, as it took me about 6 months to get back to "myself". Blessings.

If it is bad enough you really should go to the Dr. The headache could only be the symptom of something much more serious.
When I have a bad headache I use either a hot or cold pack. It really depends on what feels comfortable. Dimming the lights will also be helpful. Try to have complete silence or at least relaxation music on. No loud noises or anything like that. Sometimes a warm bath will soothe you (add some baking soda to the water). Do not drink coffee or anything with a lot of sugar or caffeine. It will make the pain worse.
Wear loose clothing and try to stay in bed. Make yourself eat at least three times a day so you don't lose any energy. Have you tried taking Motrin or Naproxen? Just to be on the safe side I would take some Echinacea too ( to keep you from getting sick). If you can, take a PM pain reliever and just sleep it off.
If the pain gets too bad, go to the Hospital even if you can't afford it. They have to treat you even if you can't pay so it doesn't matter. Don't even worry about the bill because they do have very good payment plans. In any case, you're no use to yourself like this and you'll be losing money just the same from not working. Good luck. I hope you feel better.

You can't afford hospital is a good thing!
Pl be doctor of your own; you will hardly need hospital in your life!
As per Acupuncture theory the liver is related to eyes. Pain in eyes denotes the excess of liver fire.
The excess of liver fire in young age gives rise to worst head aches.
There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES,
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.
Pl keep notes of experiments and thoughtfully go ahead, GOD will certainly help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.
If it is on forehead search the point on front side 3 - 10 mm.
Best luck my dear friend.
