my wife is deep into a book about a Detective Inspector, she asked me the other day what one was. It's such an easy thing for me to grasp that for some reason, I can't explain it. I've tried looking everywhere online but I can't find an answer yet. Anyone out there who has any idea, please lay it out for me so I can shut her up so she can stop assuming that just because 2 words are together like that it doesn't mean that it's a mistake not caught in the editing process. thank you.

In some countries, they have different ranks within the Detectives......... The Detective Inspector is considered the highest rank with in the Detective Division.

Its like in New York City........ they have the rank of Detective.... and then above that the rank of Inspector. Its like a superior rank among your own peers.
