I think the main problem is the food. Purina is not a top quality brand, and dry food in general is not good for cats. Yes, I DO know better than the mfrs. of cat food. Sometimes the majority does NOT rule! LOL
If you plan to continue feeding dry food, choose a better one (see the link below). But your cat will be better off eating canned food.

i had trouble with feeding. my vet told me not to use purina indoor because cats dont do well with it. im not sure why. you could change it to purina cat chow, which my vet said was real good. also you could try fresh step cat litter. i used to use tidy cat then i tried fresh step because it was on sale and i never went back to tidy cat. it clumps so there is less mess when your cat scratches to cover up. and it smells ALOT better then tidy cat. oh by the way i had 5 cats or more at any given time for the past 10 years. i wont go back to tidy cat. and purina cat chow is the only food for them. of course all this is my own opinion, but try the freah step you'll notice a difference at once. hope i helped. good luck.

Purina foods are pretty much junk and a better quality food such as Felidae, California Natural or Innova would be much better and the poo would be smaller because there are no fillers in these foods.
Also, the smell of Tidy Cat is nasty to me and it gets worse when the cats use it. I use a silicone litter that is unscented and it is MUCH better.

1. Food, litter, litter box, toys, sturdy scratching post, cardboard scratch boxes (Walmart or pet store), dishes - ceramic or metal. 2. Canned food is best - dry food is for our convenience not the health of our cats. It's best to buy it at the pet store, not the grocery store, as you can find a high-quality food free of cheap fillers - that would include by-products and wheat gluten. The best foods that you can find in the big pet stores include Wellness, Natural Balance, and Blue Buffalo. 3. Uncovered! Many cats refuse to use a covered box (think of a port-o-john in the middle of summer) and you don't want to get off to that kind of start. 4. Any unscented scoopable will work well. Avoid the cheapest brands as they are often dusty. Good luck with your new cat! Be sure to schedule a vet visit as soon as you can, so you get off to a good start with a healthy baby.

What you need to do is to give away the Purina cat food. That is crap!
Then, buy a variety of different brands of canned cat food that do NOT contain: corn, wheat, wheat gluten, soy anything, rice. In other words, no canned food that contains grains or soy of any kind. Cats are not genetically built to handle these carbohydrates. They should have a 98% meat/fish diet.
The brands I suggest are: Wellness, Evanger's Organics, California Natural, Natural Balance, Merrick's. I've posted a link below where you can go on-line and order food delivered directly to your home. You can also get cat litter from them, but the shipping costs can be high.
Good luck!

It is definitely the food. I like Hills products but you can also try IAMS or Royal Canin. I also like to completely wash the boxes out once in awhile with some 1 part bleach 5 parts water mixture or a vingear water mixture. Also try some of that tidy cat sprinkle odor control or armor hammer stuff that comes in a box. I usually sprinkle that every time I clean the box out. You can also try to get a covered litter box to help keep the litter in and also hold the odor in. My cats don't particularly like those boxes but yours might. Also a good old fashion stickup works wonders to by the box. Hope my suggestions help.

Use a multiple cats litter, like "Scoop Away", i use it and i only have one cat. Also, i scoop daily and add a little bit of Arm and Hammer Deodorizer each time. This works pretty good for me. I use the same food, haven't had a problem. Just don't forget to go the vet and get heart worm vitamins for your cat.

A diet of canned meat is the best for your cat, healthwise and for reduced litterbox waste. You may have more urine (good for your cat's kidneys) and you will have smaller poos. All poo smells, yours and mine and our cats'.
Use a high quality canned food that is basically just meat - Wellness, Natural Balance, Avoderm, CA Natural, Instinct, etc. I usually add a teaspoon or so of filtered water to a serving of canned food to increase the moisture content.

Try Feline Pine and talk to your vet. The feces shouldn't be that strong unless she isn't getting enough water. I think you need to contact your vet about the problem because the cat could be not digesting the food or have a problem that should be treated.
