Well, Joseph Fourier discovered the greenhouse effect in 1827, although he probably didn't suspect at the time that humans could influence it.

In 1896, Swedish Chemist Svante Arrhenius roughly calculated the effect a doubling of atmospheric CO2 would have on the planet's temperature. So he is usually credited with creating the theory.
