i recently installed nero 7 on my computer (about a month ago). after i installed it, several things went screwy, such as - the on screen icon indicating system volume when its turned up and down no longer appeared, my antivirus and spysweeper programs were no longer there (i hit ctrl+alt+dlt to see if they were actually running and no they werent, but when i went to reinstall them they said they were already installed). in addition, when my system is idle and nothing else is running, there are 50 processes, after i installed nero it dropped to 35. i had to reformat my computer not long after this (not because of this tho) and i figured i would install nero before everything else, including the drivers, and that seemed to fix the problem. well, i was debating on whether to install nero 8 because of this prior issue. does anyone know what could have caused this, or if it would happen again? and if this helps, im running an alienware sentia 3400 laptop with pentium m 1.76ghz processor.

Nero 8 is now out and available. Nero is a demanding resource hog and also takes up more room than I think it really needs. When I download and install Nero 7 all I installed was nero burning ROM and Nero Express. All the other stuff in my opinion is crap to take up space on your hard drive and more resources being used. I also went into msconfig and have anything that dels with nero shut off so it does not load with the computer. No need having the little nero processes running in the back ground till it is needed.
I have not yet had any issues with Nero 8 but like Nero 7 I only installed the Burning ROM and Express. If later I may need one of the other programs like to burn a picture DVD I may install it but the program that came with my digital camera does that and a good job at it.
Nero does have it's flaws though. Seems like whenever I know I will not be needing it and uninstall it that is when things get real buggy with my computer. I reinstall my O/S every 3-4 months regardless cause I like the fresh clean feel but there are times I just don't install Nero cause I think it is just to damn buggy and slow.

I heard there was a glitch in Nero7, but they were going to release Nero 8 sooner than expected so they weren't going to re-release Nero7 w/ the fixes.

Just wait for Nero 8 ... it should all be worked out.

Edit- Apparently it's out now - I missed the memo I guess :)

I cannot say what will happen but I tried version 8 and went back to version 6 which is smooth and easy to use. Good luck.
