13 year olds actually need more sleep than some of the younger kids, believe it or not. The general rule should be that if he's having trouble waking up in time for school, he's going to bed too late. I would think average is around 10 PM, although each kid's sleep needs are different, and a bedtime should be tailored to the indvidual needs of every individual kid.
If a boy goes to bed at 10 PM and wakes up with no problem at 6 AM (and that's when he needs to get up), then 10 PM is appropriate for him. If, on the other hand, he goes to bed at 10 PM and can NOT get out of bed at 6, then he needs to go to bed earlier.
On average, 9 hours of sleep is appropriate for most young teens. Older teens actually need MORE sleep (often 10 hours or more), and unfortunately, they rarely get it. This is why they spend their weekends (and much of their vacations and holidays) sleeping until noon as their bodies try to catch up to the sleep they are missing.

My 13 year old is in bed by 9pm. He has to be up at 6 am. He's also been napping after school a couple of days a week. Their bodies are changing sooooo much right now, they need lots of rest along with exercise and a balanced diet.

To get a good 8 1/2 hrs of sleep. I'd say go to bed at 10 and wake up at 6:30. Fluctuate depending on when he actually has to get up to have ample time to get ready and not be rushed or droggy.

If he needs to be up at 7:30, probably 10. At least in bed by ten and reading for a while.

This depends on the time he needs to get up to start his day. I woould aim for 9 hours of sleep, so count back from the time you want him to get up. If after 2 weeks of this schedule, he is still tired or can not concentrate at school, then move bedtime back 30 minutes. Teenagers actually need more sleep than one would think.

Somewhere between 8:30 and 9:30... I think 10 is just a little too late, I'm 19 and I can't go to bed that late or else I'm exhausted...

My 8th grader goes to bed at 8:30-9pm. She has to be up at 5:45am to catch her bus by 6:30. They need lots of sleep and the less that they get, they are not able to focus like they should in school.

I think its perfect, because yo are so young, just as long as your eyeshadow is very very natural, i made that mistake.. Make em neautral and natural for school, and never put too much because if you show up without any makeup on, you dont wanna look dead.. You should still look like you.. Just an enhanced you.
