It shows that you are giving your full attention to prayer, because your hands are not busy doing anything else.

It was actually something that was picked up as a sign of humility. Its the letting go, and letting God mentality. It has very ancient origins, because as you bind your hands before your King, Emperor, or whomever, and bowing your head, you are essentially placing yourself before their mercy and adopting a humble, non-threatening posture.

I'm not sure of any connection, but that hand position and other variations of it are used in meditation techniques.

yeah other religions do it i dont do that when i pray, its just a gesture its not required to pray like that you know o.O
