Sometimes dogs limp for a couple days and they're fine. If there is no swelling, and you didn't notice any overt trauma, the dog may be OK. IF and only if you know you have a dog that will not bite you, you could try to palpate the bones with your hands. I would recommend getting someone experienced with dogs to hold the head at the very least. If it is extremely painful, or if you notice there is a lose spot between joints, it could be broken.
Of course the best thing to do would be to take the dog to a veterinarian so that they can take radiographs (x-rays). If the dog has a broken paw, something needs to be done about it. I highly recommend going to the vet if there is pain, swelling, or anything that just doesn't feel right when you palpate it. Heck, I recommend it regardless. It's not good to let your dog sit in pain because you're not sure if it's broken. I went in the next day after breaking my arm, and let me tell you it was NOT a fun night.
