Yes; because American Citizens should focus on getting our young citizens a better education; not about illegals or others getting a benefit of our Universities. Pretty soon our nation of children will not have an opportunity to get funding or scholarships because someone who broke our law took that spot and monies to continue with their undeserved education. It is a dream that is nightmarish.

It's abundantly clear to anyone that pays the least bit of attention that the Democratic party the is nothing more than a loose knit conglomerate of special interests. Unions, Environmentalists, Gays, Illegal Aliens, and the list goes on and on. And the Democratic leadership is only too happy to talk big about how they are here to help. That's how they get votes. Do they really give a darn if they actually carry through, or are they more interested in making headlines about how hard they tried? Do they have any notion of whether their ideas are any good for the country as a whole? Or are they just vote whores? Something you all have to make up your own minds about. The Dream Act (?) will come up again. It may be renamed. It may be hidden inside some other piece of legislation, but be aware, it will continue to be a democratic plank. They want the votes from the 12 million or so Illegals. They also need to portray Republicans as mean spirited (and racists) any time they get the chance.

Actually, it cannot be "rammed through the Senate" by any one person -- cloture has to be voted on -- which requires much more than one person.

As for debate -- do you seriously think that actual intellectual debate happens on the Senate floor? Have you wanted C-Span?

Most of the "debate" on the floor is just political grandstanding -- an opportunity for politicians to make speeches -- the real debate and discussion happens behind closed doors -- and this bill is nothing new -- even as a stand-alone bill it's a week old, and the content has been around for a lot longer -- meaning that it's not going to catch anyone by surprise.

As for the content -- you may disagree with it -- so will many Senators and Congressfolk -- but if it's the content that you have a problem with -- ask a question about the content, not the procedural issues of brining it to a vote.

ABSOLUTELY! It's not just the amnesty for the kids. Their families get amnesty and their families get amnesty and .... It is a backdoor approach to giving everyone amnesty and that's NOT what Americans want!

Hispanic group are complaining that the students shouldn't be FORCED to go to a community college for 2 years. Give me a break! CC is basically an extension of high school. Oops, I forgot, most don't finish High School - that could cause a problem!

It's just bad law!

It's all a sham to legalize importing slave labor and will further destroy the standard of living in America. Vote out any and every politician who is in favor of something like this. Legal immigration is great. I saw a story on a dishwasher who was an illegal alien and got paid in cash and for 11 years he did not pay taxes and can't understand why he is being deported and all of his money was seized when he tried to take it out of the country in cash in a duffle bag. 1) He's here illegally 2) HE DIDN"T PAY TAXES FOR 11 YEARS! If I don't pay taxes for 11 years, Im ah gonna be in prison cuz that's bein' a CRIMINAL!

To be honest, I'd never heard of it until you posted this and I've been looking it up... on the surface it seems like a good idea. I'm all for hearing arguments from both sides though, I'm interested in being enlightened on this. What's bad about it?

edit: Never mind, there's plenty of info here already. Yay for people answering!

One thing I would like to add, though. Remember, most of America is made up of descendants of immigrants, legal and illegal. No matter how we got here, the generation afterward can't be blamed or made to feel guilty because of where their guardians moved them.
