Has anybody here ever ate raccoons, or possums?

Just curious. Of course no city animals because most eat garbage. Corn fed is the best i heard.

I have eaten barbecued coon, and it is very rich. It takes about 24 hours to prepare it because of all the fat that is on it.

Here are some recipes that are tried and true from my friends. Personally I haven't eat this to my knowledge.

~~~~~BARBECUED RACCOON

Shoulders, hams, and saddle from 1 or 2 raccoons
1 lg. onion, sliced
Salt and pepper
1-2 c. barbecue sauce

Clean and prepare raccoon for roasting. Place in roaster pan with enough water to cover about 1/3 of the way. Slice onion and spread over meat. Add salt and pepper as desired. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until done. Add barbecue sauce with brush during last 30 minutes of cooking.

SOUTHERN STYLE ROAST OPOSSUM

(Opossums that have been feeding out of garbage cans aren't too tasty; those that have been feeding on wild foods are.)

1 opossum
Salted water
Freshly ground black pepper
Salt (if desired)
Sage or poultry seasoning
Sweet potatoes
Brown sugar
Butter

Do not skin the opossum. To dress the opossum, dip it in scalding water and pull out the hairs. Remove scent glands. Parboil for about 1 hour in enough salted water to cover. Pat dry, then place in a roaster into a 350 degree oven, draining off fat as it accumulates. After the roast has browned a bit, season with salt and pepper and a sprinkle of sage or poultry seasoning. After an hour of roasting, add sweet potatoes which have been parboiled 20 minutes in their jackets, then skinned and cut into thick slices. Sprinkle the sweet potato slices with brown sugar and add a dot of butter to each slice. Continue roasting until opossum and potatoes are tender, about 1/2 hour.

No...wouldn't even consider it unless I was stranded in the middle of nowhere with nothing to eat and at the point of starvation. Besides, possums are too ugly to look at on my dinner plate. I'd just kill one simply for being some vicious little bastards. Raccoons look so cool with the burglar mask and all. They're too adorable to eat.

Anyway, I used to live in New Orleans, and even though it's not bayou, yeah they have a lot of gator and possum. I've eaten both.

No, and I wouldn't eat possum, even a country possum. They're ugly. :)
