Your cat is 6-7 months old.......he's maturing, so everything is changing. Have you had him neutered, yet? If not.....do it ASAP, or the urine won't be the only thing you smell! He'll start spraying and THAT is really BAD! Some foods make the poop smell bad, and the fact that your litterpan has a hood just "contains" the smell more. That means that you need to clean it even more often. I've found that I'll clean the pans a lot more often if they don't have covers. I can see as soon as someone has "gone", so I can get it sooner. Also, some cats are bad about not covering their poop, so the smell goes all over, very quickly. I use Scoop Away for Multi-Cats, and that works well. My cats only eat dry (Purina Tuna/Salmon). Try the dry for awhile, give LOTS of fresh water, and see if that makes a difference. Just save the Fancy Feast for a "once-in-awhile" treat. Good luck...........

change your cat food. Wet or moist cat food does tend to make there waste smell worse. Also sprinkle some Arm and Hammer baking soda in the bottom of the box before you put the cat litter in. This will help some. I have four in door cats and I use the Multi Cat cat litter and found that it works better with the ordor than the Arm and Hammer so you might want to change your litter. Good Luck

If this is a male kitten, it's even more important that he eat canned food. Because of the different length of their urethra, male cats are very prone to urinary issues. Cats eating dry food only are dehydrated and this makes their urine very concentrated. By contrast, cats eating primarily wet foods are properly hydrated and their urine is more dilute and thus less smelly.
It sounds like you're feeding canned but I think FF makes dry food too so I can't be sure. In any case, FF is not good food at all, canned or dry.
Switch him to a better quality canned food. This will make his waste - both liquid and solid - less stinky. It's still going to smell but it won't be as bad.

I'd follow the advice of slowly changing your kitty's food. If you don't notice a change then I'd advise you to take kitty to the vet - it could be a more serious problem.
Does your litterbox hood have the option to use a filter? If so, make sure those are changed regularily. Adding the baking soda always helps and maybe even keeping a little air freshner can help to mask the smell.

I've found that with my four cats either Tidy Cats scoopable or Fresh Step. And it's very important to clean the litter box often....and maintain 3 to 4 inches of cat litter in the box at all times.....Cat pee is one of the worst smelling thing on the planet....I know what you mean....but it's normal.

I hear wet foods is to them like Mcdonalds is to us. We have three cats in a one bedroom apt and i only smell it when they have a bad fresh poop or i'm cleaning. it and we use publix brand litter, not even brand name. Switch to dry food gradually, it will probably help.
