I deeply respect people of all faiths. However, their needs to be a line when something is going overboard. How can someone believe in Scientology. Not just becuase of it's sci-fi belief system, but the entire fact that it revolves around how much money you put into it. That alone should tell you that something is messed up. If their are any scientologists on this board, please inform me why you believe what you do.

I took some scientology courses years ago. One on communications and one on better studying. Great stuff. The cost was about the same as any other course. I also went to some of their sunday services. Very generic stuff wishing well for people in natural disasters and stuff like that followed by a request for canned goods and clothing to send. They never passed the plate. I never heard any of the scirfi stuff that I see here but apparently thats because its all "secret stuff known only to the highest ups". According to the anti-scientology sites more than 2/3 of the people who try it just take a couple of cheap courses then leave. Personally I didnt think the other prices were bad but they were more than I needed to pay since I didnt need help with things like peer pressure or drugs. I guess it depends on how messed up you are.

I dont really see what the problem is. It was alot more useful than the time I spent with the baptists (just my opinion). Plus the Baptists charged more (10% tithing), were more invasive in my life, pushed their strange beliefs harder, and bugged me more with phone calls and visits after I decided to leave. Oh and as far as charging to get to the top, dont other religions charge you "all of your worldly goods" to reach the top inside their church? It might be the american consumer in me but I like flat rates better than 10% or 100%.
I guess its all in what you want.

Why? Because scientology preys on the week and the easily persuaded. Whenever I read stories about how people started out in scientology it's very often the case that they had no real direction in their life or they were severely depressed, etc. (per the results of their free personality test) and they were told that scientology "is the only way that can help them". They are also told, as some scientologists have mentioned here, that the first course you take only costs $50, which is true. But they do not go into it with the awareness that the prices go up drastically if you want to continue "up their bridge".

Scientology is based on many things, but it is true that the original idea was pure fiction.
Lafayette Ronald Hubbard said so himself on his deatbed, that it was an "experiment" to see how far he could go (read "The Wave").
Infact he tried to brainwash his son into being the head of the organization, at which point his son tried to kill himself.

It does sort of revolve around money, in the sense that poor people never get far, but the that is mainly because thay cant afford the "advanced courses", heel most people cant afford them because they each cost somewhere around 3000 dollars.

The scientologists believe in this because the human mind is amazingly flexible. It can be bent or broken with the right application of stimulus. Think of it this way, if hundreds of people killed themselves in jonestown, wouldnt it be easier to convince them to pay up?

They believe that psychology is wrong because psychologists use drugs and because psychologists base their results on existance of cells. Scientologists dont believe in drugs, and you have to go through detox, during which you take no drugs. Which is kind of sill, because what if you are diabetic? So they call themselves a self-help organization and lots of yokels fall for it. Even though the reason they hate psychiatrists is because Hubbard was crazy and a danger to his family, so psychologists said he should be contained, but no one listened, and then hios son tried to kill himself (surprise, surprise).

Quite frankly, i think the only reason they havent all "drank the kool-aid" is because then they couldnt pay for the self help courses.

They pay money into self-help courses. Not to be bigger scientologists. From what I have seen and read it is not like putting more money in the offering plate to be a better . The church up the street wants me to tithe 10% of my earnings before taxes! I don't know what you make but the price of the courses does not look like much compared to that.

there is often 2 facets to each tale. What i like approximately Scientology is that it supplies records to strengthen your life and the life of others. you are able to think of for your self and comprehend people greater appropriate. yet there are those people who've evil intentions and could stumble into Scientology. They then run out and tell horror memories. no longer something is appropriate, yet once you may stumble on greater approximately themselves and others then it relatively is a good factor precise?

I am a Scientologist. I am an OT-7, and Xenu loves me. I am also brainwashed and have almost no more money left.

Scientology is a cult. Cult members are not persuaded into believing what they believe, they are brainwashed into it.

It is a lot like Christianity was in the Dark Ages.

Why? Because people can be victimized and brainwashed, that's why.
