It is ILLEGAL to attempt to buy a handgun directly from a Distributor in ANY state. You must be 21 years of age to purchase a handgun. You must make your purchase thru a licensed FFL (Federal Firearms License) Dealer. A typical transaction would be you would go to your nearest Dealer, fill out the required paperwork according to your individual state's laws/requirements.Place an order for the handgun you wish to purchase, then wait for approval if it is required or if your state has a legal waiting period prior to purchase. After your application is approved, and any waiting period times are finished, you can complete the sale, and take your handgun home.

You will have to give them the name, address, phone number and FFL license number of someone with a Federal Firearms License. This is usually a local gun shop owner with whom you have worked out a deal for him to receive the gun for you. Either they will contact this person and arrange shipment or will have you get a copy of that person's FFL and send it to the person who is selling the gun. The seller will then ship the gun to the FFL holder that you have chosen. When you go to pick it up, the person to whom it was shipped will do the required paperwork. You will have to pay for the shipping costs plus whatever the FFL holder charges for his transfer fee. The person to whom I have my guns shipped only charges me $25 for the transfer fee but he is a friend so I am probably getting a deal. The shipping fee will be paid to the seller for his expenses to ship the gun to your dealer (FFL holder). You can expect this fee to run somewhere around $25 to as high as $50. If you were having a collector gun shipped the fee is even higher because of the insurance. After all of the fees, you have to be getting a really good deal on a gun before it is worth buying from a non-local dealer. Often your local dealer can get the same gun for the same amount or less. Be sure to check this posibility out before buying from an out of town gun dealer.

The 'MSRP' of a new Model S&W 500 Revolver(1) - 4" (SKU: 163504) is $1,446.00....IF you can find one in stock! Let me tell you...it's a howitzer! In July, 2003, Jeff Quinn of Gunblast magazine gave it a thorough review.(2) The requirements for handgun ownership/registration/CCW are complex, and vary greatly from state to state. Much too involved to try to explain in a Yahoo Answers box, but you can look these up easily online. Good luck in a very enjoyable and interesting hobby, and one that is coming under unprecedented attack by its political opponents, who have their own interpretation of the 2nd Amendment to The United States Constitution; one that doesn't include you or me!

A handgun can only be shipped to a person with a FFL. You'd have to have it shipped to a gun shop in your area and then pick it up there.

If you have a BATFE 01 FFL license, yes.
Otherwise, speak to a gun-shop or 'smith who can receive the pistol, deal with all of the paperwork, and then give you the weapon. [for a fee, of course.]
If you want to collect...you might look into getting a class 03
FFL license: this allows you to collect weapons for yourself
[without the intent to resell them]. Other restrictions apply, but...

You will need to have it shipped to a licensed dealer near you. You need to coordinate the seller with your local dealer for his license and shipping address. You will then need to go to the local dealer who processes the federal, state and local requirements and when all is done and approved, he can then give your firearm to you.

If you are in the USA they will not ship to your home. They will ship to a gun dealer near your home. Then you go there to fill out the paper work, wait 3 days and then pick it up.

What intrigues me more is why you feel that you need such a powerful revolver. Especially since it's your first gun.
No you can not have it shipped to your house.
I suggest planning a trip to your local gun shop and talking to them.

In the decades past when anyone can get an FFL, yes, but today NO WAY. You have to get it through an FFL dealer, or get it from a private sale through an individual who has one to sell.
