get a bacon press or set another pan on the bacon while it cooks, it will ensure that your bacon doesn't curl, also.

I have this really cool $3.00 item that I purchased at Walmart (or any kitchen gadget store). It is a screen that is about 16" round. It fits over small pans and large ones. It has a screen that allows air flow, but keeps all the grease in the frying pat.

My second suggestion would be, MICROWAVE! Again, Walmart sells a bacon plate that is meant for nothing other than cooking bacon in the microwave. It drains off the grease as well as cooks bacon nicely and quickly. Just remember to cover the plate with a paper towel so the grease isn't all over the microwave. You can also use just a plain plate in the microwave, but I found the bacon plate works a bit better.

Good Luck

I cook my bacon in the oven (350F)
Lay the bacon on a rack and put it in the preheated oven for 10 - 15 minutes. All the fat runs into the pan and the bacon comes out just how you like it. Keep an eye on it to get the crispness you like and note how long it takes for the future.

It's more convenient since it leaves the stove top open for the other items I'm cooking.

If you must cook it in the pan keep your heat on medium or below. I've found that draining the fat during cooking helps.

When I am cooking the bacon in the skillet I cook on a low heat seems to prevent splatter. Also I cook bacon under the broiler. It cooks quickly so keep an eye on it.

microwave it... wrap in paper towels and microwave for 1 minute at a time until desired doness (crispiness).

In regards to being scared with the bacon popping, just think of the delicious bacon you'll be eating. Just know that you won't catch on fire and you have nothing to be afraid off. lol

I've been known to turn bacon using just my fingers with no problems.

get whats called a splatter screen. A bacon press does nothing other than keeps it flat but grease in pan will still fly all over.

try putting the bacon on a paper towel and microwave it for 1-2 minutes be sure to keep your eye on it!don't leave the room.or buy a screen/lid to put on your pan.[walmart-targetect...]also you might have the temp. up to high.the lower the temp=less spatter it takes a little longer but it won't pop as much.

I generally cook mine in the microwave. Three layers of paper towels underneath, 2 or 3 on top. Probably at least 4 minutes on high, but check every minute or so.
