I'd like to paint my bedroom a medium shade of brown but was wondering if this would be too dark , sad/gloomy ?

Brown is great color for a bedroom. It's very welcoming & calming. Check out all of these HGTV makeovers done in brown:

It depends on the size and position of the room. It is generally not a good idea to paint a small room dark, or a room that doesn't get much sunlight either. If this is the case, maybe you could paint one wall and leave the others light. However, if your room seems big enough to handle it and gets suffifient sunlight then go ahead! It sounds like it would look really good, and if you choose the right shade and add colour accents to your room then definitly not sad or gloomy.

For bedrooms, pick out the bedding and curtains first.
Then, match one of the bedding colors for the walls. [ if you have brown walls, you should have light ceiling and floor ].
Pick two or three colors from bedding, including the wall color, for: throw pillows, lamps/shades, reading chair, vases, ornaments, flowerpots, candles, and holders.
Suggest you add some brass or copper accents with medium brown.

No, dark colors were big in style at one time. Dad had our living room walls, a deep Hunter Green! I think paint your room the brown (I like brown) and use white for the trims and the ceiling. It would look awesome! Byee

if your furniture is all white it woould look great
it wont be too dark if you add brushed nickel accesories and mirrors
dont paint a room too bright since you need to be able to unwind and sleep there--like dont do yellow
med brown is soothing and comforting
you can also do one wall an accent wall of a creme color to lighten things up

Browns can be good choices for a bedroom, but then you would need to lighten it up with your choices of linens. Blues can be calming for a bedroom, reds are too energetic and not soothing enough.
