i have sat with my legs crossed probably starting when i was around seven now i am fourty. i cross them every time i sit down, eventually after a long priod of crossing my top leg gets numb. i have heard that crossing your legs can cause vein problems, back problems, and hip problems, i dont have any at all, but is this true that it is bad? do you cross your legs also? and are you aware it might be bad?

I can understand the health problems, and can also see the association. But it's interesting, as I'm pretty SURE it's supposed to be an etiquette thing.

Kinda like corsets used to be. And they come with their share of health problems, too.

What I'm basically saying is there really doesn't need to be a 'more ladylike' way of sitting. As long as it's comfortable for you (which it obviously isn't), it should be acceptable in society.

((((hugs))))

May peace go with you throughout your life

Thinking about it, the problems seem probable.

It is not good for you for the exact reasons you listed. Instead, you are supposed to cross your ankles.
