my lil furbaby six months is very frightened of them. he hides behind the sofa and his mummy (cat) can not get to him to comfort him and we are now very worried as she is getting stressed out which is making daddy (cat) 'shout' and we have tried everything to get bagheera (kitten) out from behind the sofa and calm the situation down but it is getting worse. my next door neighbour is letting fireworks off every day now and won't stop till after bonfire night. when we go out we leave music or the t.v on but even this isn't helping they have lots of places to hide but as bagheera has chosen the most awkward of places that none of us can get to and he is a bag of nerves and is crying out for comfort. i have tried to speak to the person but he won't listen and the vet can't put bagheera on meds as he is too little and has been poorly recently. please help sensible answers only

it is not illegal in the uk to let fireworks off and nor do we require a licence to do so.
i chose the name bagheera because i like reading the jungle book and it suits him. i don't think it is a reason for him to be so scared

I spoke to vet today about bioforce which i used with success on my rabbits a few years back and he has said go for it and also has said serene um (an amino acid based tablet has successfully worked with cats/kittens for thunderstorms and fireworks. we have feliway plug ins but they weren't helping. thank you to all those who gave sensible answers. he was given an injection today to calm him and he has slept all evening apart from the odd mew for mum. tomorrow i will get something like serene um or bioforce.

ok, firstly i would say not to try to get your kitten out from its hiding place and TRY not to get too upset with this! i know it is hard but your kitten will pick up on this and it will re-affirm its belief that it should be scared! i would suggest getting some feliway plug-ins from your vet and plug them in in the rooms your cats are - this should help calm them down. also, apply drops of rescue remedy to your cats ears - this too should help calm them down. keep your curtains closed.
your neighbour sounds like a nightmare and i truly feel sorry for you :-( poor cats!

There must be some way you can move the sofa out from the wall, long enough for someone to pick him up!! Then, take him as far away from the noise, and put him AND HIS MOM/DAD together in a room ALONE, with food, water, and litterpan. Report the noise "pollution" to the authorities. Most cities have a law about this. Good luck....and PLEASE get someone to pull that sofa away from the wall. Traumatized animals are no fun for anyone, now OR LATER!!

Fireworks are notorious for terrifying animals witless!
More loss pets due to that.
Put little kitten in a distant room from noise with either a TV going or radio with some calming consistant music (not heavy metal or hard rock either!), that should distract and mute some of the offending noise.

That's a difficult one, especially if you have had a word with this person and he won't budge. Poor little kitty.
All i can say is that you are doing your best by putting the radio on and the tv. Unless of course a close firend or something can take your cats away from it for a while until it's all over.
Hope you get something sorted soon. I have cats and although they don't like the noise, i just keep them in , they usually go upstairs...

I had a similar problem. We got some herbal medicine from the local pet store that calmed both the cat and dog down. We also sound proofed (with cardboard) the cupboard under the stairs and put the cats favourite cushion in there, with a night light and a tape player. She was perfectly happy and fell asleep in there every evening. (I stayed with her just for the first evening)
Good luck and hope she's feeling better soon

Are fireworks legal this time year where you live? If not, call the police ever single time your neighbor does this. It’s not only annoying but as the potential to cause fires.
