So I recently received a call from an employer inquiring about my application which I missed. I missed the call because I was in a terribly receptive area for my cell phone and it was on weirdest of all days: Saturday night. I really want the job and called back first thing the next day, but the associate let me know that the person that called me was not in. She did take down my information and assured me I should receive a call back. Should I call back the next day? or should I wait around for them to call me? I do not want to sound desperate by calling everyday trying to get a hold of the lady, but that may mean that I am serious about getting the job. Definitely a double-edged sword situation. What do you think?

I always like to follow up a call with an email as well. If you have their email address, send them a note saying..."I left you a voice mail the other day but I wanted to send you an email as well so you have my contact information on file. I am still very interested in this position and look forward to hearing back from you soon"

Then leave your contact info again so they can call you back

You can keep calling back, but only leave one more message. Its always possible that they didn't get the first one, so at least call back one more time, if she isn't there leave another message. You can also ask when would be a good time to reach her and try then. After that you can still call once a day, but don't leave more messages - that would seem overboard.

It may seem a little odd to call someone on saturday, but it depends on the business. But it would be totally normal if it was a business like a restaurant, hotel, movie theatre, retail store or any other business that is open evenings or weekends. A manager would have to be there all the time anyway, so there's no reason not to get work like hiring done then, too. Even if it is a regular mon-fri business, the hiring manager may have had a long week or wanted to catch up when the office was quiet and thought she would have a good chance of reaching people on a saturday evening

What you should actually do is call the location again. But this time if the person is not there ask when they will be in again. This is so you do not have to call every day.

Then on the day they are supposed to be there, give them a couple of hours to call you back. So if they are in from 8am to 5pm call somewhere between 10 and 11am if you don't hear from her first.

Call back. At the very least, try and get the voicemail of the person who called. Apologize and explain about the cell phone. Persistance, will let them know that you are indeed interested.

If you don't hear back from her today, I'd give her a call tomorrow. Say that you received the message and were calling back - no need to tell her you left a message already.

Call back the next day. It shows initiative, drive and enthusiasm for the position. If she has voice mail, certainly leave a message on that. Good luck to you!
