I've just moved into an already furnished bedroom and the furniture in there is dark cherry. My current furniture won't match but I need additional storage. I don't want to buy cherry furniture because it is expensive and I won't use it in my next apartment (within a year's time). What can I put in there? White or black don't seem like good choices but any other wood color seems off as well. Any suggestions?

Thank you very much

I love cherry furniture. Cherry is very versatile and goes well with many colors. Often cherry is put in a room with a glossy black. The Asian look blends well with cherry wood so you could paint an Asian letter or such to spruce the piece of painted wood up some. Gold goes nicely with cherry and black too. Best of luck.

Okay, I understand that you want a dark room to sleep in, but you can accomplish that with proper drapes and black out lining. If you paint your walls dark rich colors you will drastically reduce the reflection of light so it will be cave like when your awake as well. Any dark color will work, and you could paint the ceiling the same color, but if you have beautiful cherry furniture, it will disappear against the dark walls lending no contrast. Black out lining will greatly reduce the light that comes in your windows, if that is the problem. go for the dark colors, but it will cave it out for the rest of your waking hours as well.

How about buying cheap pine boards to use as shelving? You can get stain samples to take home to try to match the existing furniture. You can even find samples that you can actually USE on wood. Then you just get those shelf bracket thingys which you attach to the wall, get the actual brackets and lay the boards on them.

They can be reused later as is, or you could stain them a darker color, or even paint them. You can take the whole thing with you - just be sure to patch up any holes in the wall.

Cherry red with go beautiful with a chocolate brown! The other major colour is laquered black, which gives any room a beautiful, oriental feel! Both colours are very versatile so they will easily go into your new apartment. Good luck.

Have you considered clear plastic underbed drawers, closet
shelf dividers, and bins for closet floor?
These match everything, or nothing, and can be used everywhere.
