This question was asked in Home and Garden, but honestly I don't think they take the threat that squirrels provide as seriously as hunters.

Please provide your input on squirrel attacks and lets band together to finally rid the world of this nuisance (yet tasty!) animal once and for all!!!!!

Muhaaahaaahaaahaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!

C'mon, squirrels attack! give me a brake. I never heard of such a thing. Seriously, there more scarred of us. First sight of us and there gone like lighting. I hunt squirrel and never had an incident like that. All though I was sitting against a tree trunk one mourning and on the tree in front of me one foot away had a squirrel climbing on it. It stoped at the same level my head was at (in full camo including face mask) and I could of sworn he was going to jump right on my face thinking I was part of the tree. But he didn't thank god. Imagine a hunter running around the woods with a squirrel attached to his face while screaming and running about lol.

I had a couple of squirrel attacks because as a hunter I am always out in the woods which the squirrels seem to believe belong to them.
I shot at a squirrel once and it ran up into a hollow tree and looking up I could see it's tail. I had a pair of gloves on so I just reached up and grabbed that squirrel's tail and pulled him out, expecting him to be dead or at least weak from being shot. NOT SO. He was fighting mad. As others have found out squirrels do not like their tail pulled, and he whipped around and grabbed my glove at one of the fingers but unfortunately he also got the finger in his little teeth too. I jerked my hand out very quickly and there was a squirrel hanging from it. It hurt like heck and I was afraid my cousin was going to try to shoot the squirrel and end up shooting me. So I tried to pull the glove off but he had it and the finger welded together in his mouth. So I did the only thing I could think to do and that was to beat my own hand half to death on the tree trunk. I wasn't sure what was going to die first, my hand or the squirrel. He finally let loose and ran up the tree and my cousin blew him loose with a shotgun. I wish he hadn't done that I was wanting to save that tough sucker and have him mounted with my glove in his mouth.

Growing up on the farm you never had trouble with squirrel attacks unless they were sick or had rabies and then they will attack and unfortunately catching them and bring them to do all test to see if they had rabies wont work so you get treated for rabies! Grandpa told us always to leave the squirrels alone you never know when you will come across a sick one! Hope this helps!

More recently there has been an outbreak in squirrel attacks. I believe either Field and Stream or Outdoor life recently ran an article about several of the more serious attacks, but they are becoming more widespread.

The article referred to this website: http://www.deadsquirrel.com/

A few of the news stories highlighting the rise in attacks.
