Yes, I think atheists and other minority religious views are bigger than polls reveal. This is due to some of the ways polls are conducted.
You have to be careful judging figures on a forum like this, though. The average person here is, quite simply, somebody who finds the subject of religion deeply interesting in one way or another. Otherwise they wouldn't be here in the first place. The average person doesn't have a strong religious conviction one way or another.

I've seen polls anywhere from 3% to 17% depending on how you word the question and what you define as an atheist. The truth is probably someplace around 10%. It does seem to be growing. 30 years ago it was hard to find another atheist. Now it is easy.
There are many more who consider themselves Christian, but don't attend church and really never gave it a lot of thought.

Well, we're a skewed sample, so I wouldn't base anything on the proportions that you see here.
I do suspect that there are more atheists than commonly thought, though we're certainly relatively rare.
I also think that we're becoming more common, largely as a response to 9/11, which must have made people think a bit more about the value of life and also think a little more critically about the value of religion.

Not not at all ,probably less, the atheists like to claim those who don't give a answer as atheist stating that these people are afraid to say they are atheist, I don't believe that, they just keep trying to bolster their numbers, the fact is they are a vast minority yet they are the noisiest minority trying to get any attention they possibly can ,any way they can, R & S proves this.

Quite possibly.
And never forget that gallup polls are directed to certain areas. If they want scores that reflect corporate, middle class america, they make SURE to direct their questions to those households.

I don't think so, because why are they here, asking, and answering questions, if they don't want answers.
I don't like cricket, so I don't watch it, talk about it, or go on sites that do nothing else than talk about cricket.
The thing what everybody should admit is there is no proof that God, does or does not exist, no matter how you look at it, from either side it is down to faith. so are they here looking for that proof one way or another?
I would say that there is enough proof around, and from what i have seen, and done, but no matter what i would feel is proof, even if God showed himself to the world, people would say it's fake. why because we are human, and we always want proof, but what if there is none either way?
I know some will give this answer the thumbs down, but do they do that just for the sake of it, becaus eno one can say this is wrong, unless they have proof, which they don't, so are Atheists just looking for proof?, you would be surprised how many of them go to church.

I think a lot of people say they have faith but in reality are agnostic. I think what you see here are atheists who are tired of being confused with satanists and want to help others see that it's OK to use your brains instead of using blind trust in a 2000 year old book written by corrupt men.

There are more and more atheists all the time. We are beginning to realize that the myths and fairy tales don't hold up anymore. We want proof and science is only proving the opposite of what christians and some other religions believe.

of course there is. many atheists either mess with the polls for fun or dont bother to take them because they have more important things to do than take a survey on what they believe.
