i have had braces for 2 years now and yes, i have chewed gum. my ortho told me not to but why? it doesnt do anything

well i am getting braces 2moro, and i asked my orthodontist if i absolutly couldnt, of course he isnt gonna say "ya! sure go ahead!" cause for one, it isnt really all that good for your teeth and jaw, and two, chewing gum could bend a wire or even if its sticky gum (like double bubble, etc.) then it could stick to your wire or brackets - and from what i heard thats no fun to get out! so i guess id say if you want to chew gum maybe only do it once in a while! or just be safe and dont at all! :)

Because chewing gum can get hopelessly stuck in dental work and I'm sure he doesn't want to have to clean it out.

It gets terribly stuck in your braces, well it could. Mine did, I no longer cchew gum. Bad experience with that!!!
