I am really having trouble with my prayer life. I feel so far away from God that it seems almost impossible to be reconciled to Him. Prayer is this extremely difficult thing that I dread. I have a feeling that that is not how God intended it to be. Can someone help me to understand what I need to do to make my prayer life better?

Beloved, We all have times when we feel away from God, because our lives on this earth get in the way. I find that if I go outside on a clear night, and see all the stars in the heavens, my head feels clearer, and I feel away from this earth for a while. I am able to be alone with God. Just remember, you can just talk to Him like you talk to anyone. You don't have to have any kind of ritual to it, and you shouldn't. He is your best friend. The One who knows you inside and out. The One who loves you more than anyone on this earth could. The One who waits for you to talk to Him. what is it you dread about prayer. It is only conversation with God. Maybe you should talk to your Pastor about it, and he can help you find ways to improve it. Start with PRAISE! God loves to hear it from us. Praise Him in good times, and in troubled times. Praise Him for all He's done for you in your life. Count your blessings. Maybe doing that, you will realize how much you have, and how thankful you are to your Heavenly Father. He made you. He loves you, and He is waiting for you. When I pray, I imagine God sitting there listening to me, like I'm the only one in the world. And He hears us each like that. I'll pray for you, so you can pray to our Father. God Bless!

Prayer IS life. Every action you take or word you speak is heard, seen, received, experienced by God. He doesn't start listening when you address him and stop when you say Amen. Most of the time, I do not even use those anymore, I just address him directly if need be or just address my coworker or sit in silence but I am under no delusion that I am somehow apart from God at any time.

As such, I highly recommend you practice centering prayer. Sit in silence and quiet your mind and repeat a word or phrase. Some repeat a doxology, the sinner's prayer, an invocation, etc. I like teh refrain from the prayer for peace (aka The Prayer of St. Francis): "Lord, make me a channel of your peace."

It is in the silence, when all your fears are set aside for the moment, when you will feel him and know taht he has been there all along and your mind has been too busy to really notice much.

To me a successful prayer life is not really the praying itself, it is in knowing that the one you pray to hears you- and that sometimes He will not always answer the prayers exactly the way you would wish- when I realized that God does not answer every one of my prayers the way I want Him too, the more I have learned to trust

I read the Psalms, especially Psalm 91 and 139, and John 14-15. Then I start thinking about how much God loves me, and how I want to love Him and serve Him.

Focus on the Word of God. Remember, even if you feel you aren't being heard, you are. All Christians go through times like this.

You could try meditation, mind body exercises, and work on improving your diet. You have to have an open mind in order to connect well with God. Try to find the best in spiritual ideas, that will make you a more positive factor for good, in this world. A moral God would like that. Then maybe your praying will be with less trouble..

Try journaling (sp?) your prayers. Sit at your pc or get a notebook and write down the things that you want to say to God. Kinda like a letter. I felt the same as you once and I tried this and it helped me alot. God sees and know all things you don't always have to be on your knees to pray. Give it a try. Hope this helps God Bless

Look for contentment. Read and research. Act on your freewill. Enjoy life. Talk to an authority of prayer, like a pastor or buddhist monk. Don't be lazy.
