Your muscles ache because of too much exercise right?
Well, it makes sense.
Muscles normally synthesize energy in the muscles by using glucose and oxygen. (Aerobic Pathway)

In Chemical Physiology, once the muscles get overworked, the oxygen intake and stores in the body may not be able to adequate to meet the metabolic demands of the muscles. This causes the muscles to synthesize energy through another method (Anaerobic Pathway), which uses no oxygen, but produces a by-product called lactic acid, which is stored in the muscle tissues, causing it to become sore.

It's harmless and will be taken out through the bloodstream in a few days. To hasten your recovery, you have to increase the blood flow to the sore muscles, for them to remove the lactic acid more efficiently.
You do this by applying warm compress to the affected area. A warm bath will also help.
(warmth dilates the blood vessels, causing it to carry more blood to the tissues)

You might also want to take a soothing massage, as massage promotes better circulation.

Just because you overexercised? Or do you have a fever and sore throat?

Well, for pain, you take ibuprofen. Start with 200mg, if you don't feel better in an hour, add another 200mg, and you can do that one more time if needed.

Sore muscles melt in heat. So a nice long bath soak or power massage in the shower is definitely in order. Try not to let your muscles get cold immediately afterward--the heat is what relaxes your muscles, hold it in.

The muscles are sore because you created a buildup of lactic acid when you exercised. The best way to disperse this acid is to exercise, lightly, not intensely, just move the muscles about a bit, stretch. Don't just sit there; that will make it even worse.

Heating pads help.

Now, if you have a fever, or cold-like symptoms, it's time to head for the dr. because you may have the flu. It's important to get there quickly, because the med he can give you only works in the first 24 hours of you feeling ill.

Take care.

nice long hot showers or baths work great. also the sports rubs and an ibuprofen may help.I highly reccommend a good massage because rubbing the affected muscles is the best way to relax them and take away pain...when your muscles get all tight and cramped up lactic acid builds up in them and that is a cause of your discomfort. rubbing the muscles will relax and loosen them, release the lactic acid, and aid in the releiving of your pain. hope the explanation helps and you go get a massage or two..

Try to have some good sleep, this will always help. Also, you've told correctly, a warm shower or bath before sleeping always helps. My personal trainer also says that a good cool down after excercise helps '...'acid (a kind of acid in your muscles - cant remember the name) to 'spread' over your body, making it less painful. sooo cool down correctly. hope it helps
