the breeder that I got 2 of my kittens from just called and asked me for help. Now she's going to a serious medical illness right now and to top it off, her cats and kittens have serious upper respiratory infections. I have 5 healthy cats of my own and am VERY nervous about doing this. I know its risky. Would you do this? Have you been through this? What can I do to prevent my cats from getting sick?

My cats are all healthy. She wants help with her cattery, but her cats are sick. I've spoken to vets and they say it is extremely risky even if I take all the precautions....

well Keep the infected cats locked in an area that your other cats can't go into and also yuo might want to take them to the vet you can get medicine for tham and it will help clear the infection faster!

If she is a breeder, she should have enough money for a vet to treat her cats. I think her story is kinda fishy! Sometimes, cats with upper respiratory infections have an illness called Feline Herpes Virus. If your cats catch that disease, they will have it for life. One of my cats have it and gave it to my older cat. Now, it's one cold after another, it's like playing ping pong. Alot of vet bills. Her cats all need antibiotics and should be attended to by a vet! Good luck!

I wouldn’t take in those cats if you don’t want your own to get sick. When I brought #2 home from the shelter, #1 caught her kennel cough. I used to volunteer at the same shelter, and they were adamant that I couldn’t even let my cats near the clothes that I wore there because of the risk of them getting sick. It’s great that you want to help your friend but I think her cats would be better off at a vet’s office.

First......do NOT bring those cats/kittens into your home. If you decide to help this person, get some old clothes, some rubber gloves, and old "washable" shoes. When you go to HER HOUSE, to care for the animals, wear your "protective" clothing and leave a robe at home in your garage. When you get home FROM her house, STRIP your clothes off, and put them immediately in the wash. Put the robe on and DO NOT get around your animals til after you've BATHED and put on your "at home" clothes, then throw the robe in the wash, too, so it'll be clean for the next day. I know it sounds like a lot of trouble, but your "friend" is really imposing on you and putting your animals at risk, by asking you to do this. If she's a "breeder", she should have a vet who can take care of her animals (quarantine them) til they're well, and not be asking you to do this. Good luck. PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR ANIMALS AT RISK!!

If she breeds, she makes money and has the money to spend taking her cats to the vet for proper treatment.

I have no idea what you are going to do to help. She needs a vet and probably antibiotics.
