They would have to register and be tested in order to keep their protituting lisence. It would decrease the spread of std's.

Well ok, heres what my standpoint on it is. I think that if prostitution was legal in all states, it may HELP save marriage. It has been studied, that affairs in marriages sometimes SAVE a marriage. Now people may not know this, but in Nevada, where prostitution IS legal, in many situation it is done safely. The women get checked CONSTANTLY and the men are screened. Also, think about it. I suppose some rapists are rapists for the mere fact they like control, but many, I think do it because they can't get it from anywhere else. It would be interesting to see how much sex crimes would go down IF prostitution was legal. Might I suggest looking up Brothels on youtube. I hope your paper turns out good!

So they can pay taxes for their revenue.
Thats a big one.
I got some ideas from http://www.di-ve.com/dive/portal/portal.jhtml?id=112658&pid=null
here are a few
Reason no.1
Instead of ladies hanging out on the streets giving bad examples especially to children, a person could provide a safe, even friendly place to provide the service.
Reason no.2
All the ladies would be protected from pimps who are beaten up because the requested money was not collected. Prostitutes will also be watched over from any other violence and drugs.
Reason no.3
Strict control would be taken over sexual diseases. Legalization would require prostitutes to be medically examined on a regular basis. In the current situation, the rate of STD's in our country is increasing dramatically causing serious, widespread health problems.
Reason no.4
Unwanted pregnancies would be avoided. No more abortions and children put in institutions.
Reason no.5
A woman can legally have sex with multiple partners, however, when it comes to charging her service, the act is illegalized. Many people think that this does not make sense at all.

Why give sex away, when you can get paid for it? Everyone loves sex and they say to get a job you enjoy so if someone enjoys sex, the smart thing would be to make others pay for it as opposed to doing it for free especially if you're gonna do it either way. Besides this, if it were legal then the gov't could make sure it's safer and the prostitutes and clients don't have a disease and use protection. I am against this though, but that was the argument the other side gave when we had a debate in Sociology class.

Research some places where it is legal (ie Nevada, Amsterdam) and take some good points from those places. As the others mentioned, Disease Control, Tax revenue, Happiness of citizens who currently use those services are all good reasons. Not to mention that Prostitution is currently legal in the form of Pornography. Adult Entertainment stars are in essence, prostitutes!

When you legalize an activity it removes the criminal element that involve themselves in its profit and consquently removes the incentive for concurrent criminal activities within the occupation. Pimps and pushers are able to negotiate profit away from prostitutes under the guise of protection using the illegality of the institution for their inclusion. Legalization of prostitution would be an inducement for these ladies/men to openly receive medical care and conduct these activities in a hygenic and safe environment (rather than alleys and cars, etc...). Legalization would eliminate "the stroll", houses of prostitution would be able to market their personnell in private. Sex is a completely natural human function and desire. Not everyone is in a position to find mutually consentual and satisfying relationships to sustain this drive. This often pushes persons toward the "criminal" activity of seeking to purchase sexual relations or worse to sexual activities considered more perverse and harmful by society. I don't think attempting to satisfy a natural drive should force the seeker into a "criminal" activity, fearful of the legal repercussions and shame of detection. Madison avenue sells sex every day and they are considered successful professionals-- a prostitute sells it and he/she gets a rap sheet and an overnight in the lockup. Legalizition would not create victimization it would reduce or eliminate it.

Apparently it is the oldest trade there is...
There is always a market for prostitution, people willing to be prostitutes and people that will want to pay for their service.
Legalising prostitution allows the prostitutes to have correct screening, be cared for and hopefully allow them to trade in a safer, less seedy environment.
There is also the argument that there would be less sexual assaults if prostitution was legal.
I don't think I would want to bring up my daughters next door to a brothel though, so it's a tricky one for sure...
Good luck with your research, I hope this helps.

First of all - do you support it yourself? And why?
If you look at it, in way it is! Have you heard of the Bunny Ranch? Politically it isn't! There are pro and Contras to this subject! If it would be legal Prostitutes would be protected and for the sake of health they should be monitored by a physician. Our children and women that have chosen not to be Prostitutes wouldn't be a target anymore.
One answerer made a comment as such "They should pay taxes". They are paying with their dignity, their womanhood and are being humiliated with no end and when it comes hard to hard their paying with their life's. How is that for your "tax" comment!?

Nevada is a great example. With legal brothels prostitutes can be checked for STDs, so with all prostitutes checked for STDs on a regular basis (its weekly in nevada) obviously the illegal street hookers wont be able to get any business, so all the prostitutes will be clean, reducing the spread of AIDS and such. Also it will eliminate any underage prostitutes.
I also think they test for drugs, so all the prostitutes will be clean of both drugs and disease.

1. no one is forced to go to a prostitute, it's about free will. like going to walmart to buy a carton of milk.
2. the quality (hygene and health) of prostitutes would improve. prostitute unions would form and healthcare plans. this would reduce the health risks to clients
3. the income of the prostitutes would be legally taxable, contributing to the infrastructure of society
4. advertising of prostitutes would be permissable thus increasing the quality of prostitution (example commercial "come down to honey's whore hive we have the prettiest, healthiest and friendliest ladies at a 'roll back bend over' price")

It is legal in Reno, Nev., I think. The prostitute needs a license, I think, and she gets checked regularly for STDs.
The result is reducing the risk of STDS, paying taxes, and decriminalizing a line of work that many women prefer for whatever the reason. (I am not referring to Oriental women who are smuggled over as sex trade slaves or anything like that.)
And the customers are more than happy that they choose that line of work, because they may not have wives or girlfriends.
