Parker Brothers did not invent the Ouija Board. It had already been around for awhile when it was bought by Parker Brothers in 1966 and turned into a commercial success as a board game. Its beginnings lie in the distant past when an earlier version (a tripod device) was used in the ancient ways of Babylon and Greece to contact departed spirits. The tripod became the pointer now used with the Board, which is printed with the alphabet, the numbers 1-9, a 0 (zero), and the words 'Goodbye', 'Yes', and 'No'. There are other boards like this with different names, but with the same history and purpose. The modern version of this game was developed by a man named Planchette, a spiritualist (someone who contacts the dead as part of their religion). The Board was further transformed around the turn of the century under the direction and ownership of two men, Elijah J. Bond and William Fuld. Fuld’s name can be seen on the Ouija Board today. The name Ouija is a combination of the French and German words for 'yes': Oui and Ja. According to Bond and Fuld, the Board suggested its own name. The primary purpose of the board is and always has been to contact disembodied spirits. Contacting the dead is called necromancy, and contacting spirits is spiritism, both strongly condemned by God (Deut. 18:9-12; Lev. 19:31, 20:6; I Sam 28, II Kings 21:6; Is. 8:19, 19:3-4). The Board’s translated name, 'yes, yes', is an ingenious and subtle way to invite spirit contact. Dead people cannot hang around after death; you cannot communicate with a dead person. The practices and techniques of contacting the dead and contacting spirits are used widely in the occult. Although the pointer is often moved intentionally or subconsciously by the players, you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position when using the Board. By 'playing' this 'game', you are showing an interest in spirit contact. If contact is made, it is demons (evil spirits, fallen angels), not the dead, who are responding. If Satan can disguise himself as "an angel of light" (2 Cor. 11:14), then it is not improbable that fallen angels can disguise themselves as the dead. The Ouija Board is not harmless just because it is marketed as a game. Satan, the master of deception and seduction, is good at twisting the truth into lies (Gen. 3:1-6; Jn. 8:44). Satan likes disguises and his lies are often disguised as games. The next time you are tempted to play the Ouija Board as a game, look beyond its disguise and see it for what it really is. Think about this: Just what or who are you trying to contact? God tells us to seek Him instead of the dead (Is. 8:19), and Christ "lives forever to plead with God" on behalf of those who believe Him (Heb. 7:25b). Who wants the Ouija Board when you can know the One Who has "complete authority in heaven and on earth!" (Matt.28:18). If you are wondering about Christ, think on His words in John 5:23b-24, "He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father , who sent him. I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."

Yes!
The existence of demons have been rejected by our modernistic view of society. They think that it is just a representation or it is just symbolic, and that it is an age old tradition. But it is not. Catholics believe that they truly exist and they are all around us. They have been working really hard and I think that they have been quite successful in our times today. One thing that they do, and they have done well, is to let the people believe that they do not exist anymore. Catholics believe that we are in a spiritual warfare. In war, to underestimate or even overestimate your enemy will not lead you to glory but defeat. Engaging in ouija boards is like going to the front lines of the battlefield, which is the most dangerous to do especially if you're not well-equipped in battle.
Ouija boards call on the spirits of dead people. A demon can tell you that he's your grandpa and pretend that you are really talking to him. He might also suggest things, knowing that it's your grandpa you would actually do it, might do more harm to you and to others.
I suggest you listen to your dad and pray more to your guardian angel. Yes, demons might be around us but there are angels also to protect and guide us. If you want to meet your grandpa, you can talk to your dad about him and maybe ask for pictures of him. In this way, you have met your grandpa and have more quality time with your dad.

The ouija board won't let you contact your grandfather. It doesn't work at all...it is a game. If you believe that it has power, it does. That is true for anything. The reason your dad doesn't approve of it is because he believes in the supernatural, the catholic belief system is based on that and he thinks that the board lets you communicate with demons. The bible has long condemned anything magical or mystical, when the bible itself is magical and mystical.
If you believe in imaginary beings like demons, chances are you have a good imagination and the Ouija board will show you what ever your imagination can dream up.

Never use a Ouija board. I heard that if you use them you open some portal between Hell and Earth and the bad Jinn will be able to possess you. Also I heard if you don't spell Goodbye on the Ouija board then the Jinn will haunt you until you die. The only people who mess with Ouija boards are witches. If you mess with something as powerfully magical as a Ouija board then you are asking for trouble. They are against all major religions.

I don't think the Quija board is something only the Catholics frown upon, especially since many suspect the Pope may use it every now and again for guidance. Should there really be demons and evil spirits lurking the lower realms of Earth, using the Quija board is like leaving the front door of your house open and you lived in Compton. You better know how to deal with what comes through....

Sorry. Messing around with ouiji boards constitutes Divination, an absolulte no-no in the Catholic Church.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
2138 Superstition is a departure from the worship that we give to the true God. It is manifested in idolatry, as well as in various forms of divination and magic.
2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another's credulity.

Stay away from Ouija boards. I wouldn't use one. I wasn't taking it seriously when I used it, yet it still moved without me pushing it around. It freaked me out, and I will never use it again. I'm a Christian, and I was curious about it, but now that curiosity is satisfied, and I won't touch one again. You cannot contact your grandfather or anyone else through something like this. It would just be something evil masquerading as someone loving and someone that you can trust, when in all actuality it is simply put, evil. Yes, it is a sin to mess with these things, including tarot cards, crystal balls, etc.

Yup! They are against the Church. Nothing specific will be mentioned in the Bible about it, just like you won't find anything speaking out against Internet Porn, yet you know it to be against God. The reason why is that we are told not to meddle in things not of this world. While I do not believe this boards to be anything more than a hoax, it is what playing with it signifies. If your faith and trust resides in God, than why would you purposefully seek to dabble with something clearly not of God. Truth be told, 'calling up' the long dead is not what will be the end result. You cannot speak to the dead, they are dead. The Bible calls it the great sleep, cause all are awaiting the final judgment. So do you presume to be above God to wake someone with a piece of cardboard and plastic? Surely not, I know, but this is essentially what you are seeking to do. If any contact was to be made you would be contacting only those who 1) are blatant liars (seen throughout scripture) and therefore, 2) not those you intend to seek out.
