Despite this being a tongue in cheek question some have taken it very seriously but it isn't an issue that should be(as 1 person said) left alone. I can attack you for your strongly held political beliefs but not your religeous beliefs? Oh no, bring it on says I.

It was politics and greed that caused the Catholic Church to ban Priests from marrying. When a married Priest died, their wives and children rightfully expected inheritance which the church didn't want to share.
Pantheist.

Absolutely, it's naive to think that a priest devotes 100% of his time to the church or to god, it's just not true,....they masterbate, they watch porn and have sex with hookers and hidden girlfriends (all things that I agree with by the way, honestly, why NOT?)
I think they should be married because the fact that you're a priest doesn't mean you're not human anymore, this is all about sex and the catholic church and some other want to make it look like it's about devotion to god when it's not. It's about an image and shock value, a man who doesn't have SEX, he will never sleep with a woman EVER in his life, sperm will never exit his penis, and he will never enjoy the JOY that is an orgasm, because he loves god... think about it....that's a huge selling point for the church
but when it comes down to it, less than .000001 % of men can hold off from sexual activity for their entire lives, it's possible but let's be real.... it doesn't happen, so yes... let these guys get married, and allow women to be priests :) I've read the bible and nowhere does it say women can't participate
EDIT - his4life is right, i remember reading that a huge amount of the money the church used to make came from money that unmarried priests would leave the vatican

Correct me if I am wrong but Priests choose to be priests, they are not dragged kicking and screaming into the Church.
If a Priest was to marry then how could he give all his time to Gods work.
They have given a committment to God, because they want to, in so doing their aim is to keep their eye to God and not have the daily problems of marriage and children.
It is so easy to poke fun at something that you do not understand, most of them do a great job and I for one say leave this alone, we need more men who will do this job and feel that they have been called by God .

This is a possibility. Anglican Priests who convert to Catholicism as married maintain their marriage ... as marriage is an unbreakable bond.
There has been NO Pope who has said that Priests are to remain celibate ... however, it's become tradition in RC's. Religion is rules that help move us away from our animal urges to obtain more divinity. We see this in all cultures across the world that celibacy is highly regarded. In the Buddhist, Tibet, Hindu religions they have celibate unmarried Monks. We're most familiar with the Dalli Lama (in orange) who is celibate. With the RC Priests I've meet, they find the challenge for celibacy difficult and rewarding and have a deep reverence for God & sexuality. I have not meet a Priest who's broken their vows openly & most of the one's I know are younger (20-40's).
Further, athleats in competition are often asked to remain celibate during competion to give them a competitive edge. This is almost mandatory in professions like boxing.

Should married people be allowed to cheat on each other?
Of coourse not. Both groups of people, married couples and priests, have taken a vow and vows should not be broken.

Definitely, Celibacy was instituted to save church land. It was all about money. The Catholic Church was being sued by the relatives of the Priest and Bishops for their inheritance. We need all the help we can get.

Of course they should be allowed to marry. The instincts to have sex and reproduce do not go away just because he's a priest. Those instincts are not wrong or evil and so deserve socially acceptable expression. I think allowing them to have conventional relationships may help stop their desires from being suppressed and fixated, thus lowering the number of perverted priests.

I think they should as well. I think it would also help elevate some of the problems in the church. There was a time when priests and nuns were allowed to marry and it didn't negatively affect the church so I don't see why not.
