The only thing which separated Adam from God was Adams false belief that the material man was the real man. Man was made in God's image. His spiritual image. Adam lost sight that spiritual man is real and eternal whereas material or mortal man is temporal and unreal. It was Adam's free will to believe this way. God had nothing to do with the decision. The Bible states that a deep sleep fell over Adam. I believe this to be a spiritual sleep. Man has been in this spiritual coma since. Jesus came to try and awaken mankind. He destroyed the illusion of sickness and death. Jesus also said a number of times that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Something at hand is readily available. Jesus was attempting to spiritually awaken us.

Your question has caused me to pause and think a little bit harder on this subject. I never have thought of Adam's death as changing physiologically- only spiritually. I cannot answer your question as it has caused me to ask more. I think, perhaps, that this was your goal. Not to get an answer, but to provoke thoughts. I have always thought of Adam's seperation and death as a death of his innocence and an end to his everlasting spiritual life. Maybe, I am missing out on part of it. But, it is my belief, as I am a Christian, that if God said it would be done, it was done. I don't know if there was a physical change in him, but even if there was, we wouldn't neccesarily be privy to the information. I just believe if God said it, then it is true. No matter how it happened or didn't happen. I also believe that when God said let there be light, there was light, even though the Bible doesn't explain how He did that and so on. I will go back to Genesis and read again, just because you asked such a thought provoking question. Thank You.

I think I know what you are asking, but there is NO answer from a Biblical point..... the Bible does NOT say what changes came over the physical body of Adam or Eve..... all I can say is that the protection God gave them from the elements was lifted and the body was left to the earthly power of death...... Adam and Eve were created perfect, a timeless and eternal life was given, all that was taken when Adam chose Eve over God and obedience.....sooo , what is all comes down to, the sin of disobedience is what seperates us from God, but Jesus took care of that on the cross.... this is the best I can do......... go in peace......God bless

The Holy Spirit was removed and a spirit that is dead to God abode in its place. This is the barrier to direct fellowship with God that needs a solution.
What caused physical death is not what was removed, but what was introduced.
DECAY.
Our bodies were designed to live forever, but the decay of Sin, once introduced into our bodies, results ultimately in death.

in the similar way that a sinner is born again and created new... the light of God, the love of God floods their heart.
the opposite happened to Adam and Eve. for them darkness flooded in.
.
in some really old tvs, it used to be that when they were turned off.... it took awhile for the light to fade. you could sit there and watch it get dimmer and dimmer.
that's sorta the way it was for Adam and Eve. disobedience put the light of God that had been in their heart out. and slowly the effect of that light faded. it effected their thinking right away. it effected their physical bodies over time.. they slowly got old, more flawed, the aging process is a symptom of death.
.
when you are born again... you should be aware of a different frame of mind, a happier one, a more peaceful one.
so you should understand how it might of been for Adam and Eve. who previously never knew of what all of us are born with, the heart and nature that they became.

You forget that God created the world by speaking it into existance, therefore, he could change human kind's ability to live or die by speaking it. Nothing had to be physically removed. God doesn't have to work within the bounds of what we can understand, it's arrogant to think He would! Also, the concept of everlasting life is that it is a spiritual life, not a physical one, therefore, only a spiritual change would be necessary.

Adam and Eve were created trichotomous ( body, soul and spirit) but after they sinned they became dichotomous(body and soul). So man has to be saved to have a spirit at belief in
Christ as God they have body, soul and Holy Spirit.
Now, nothing separates us because Jesus Christ removed the
sin barrier by paying for all the sin of all mankind. John 19:30.
All one has to do now in the church age is believe that Jesus is the Christ. 1 John 5:1.
The barrier is gone but mans free volition comes into play
now.

Sin separates people from God, and as you pointed out, separation from God is seen as being dead.
Paul in I Cor. 15 talks about the change of the body from the corruptible to the incorruptible. But what if nothing is left of one's body? God can create another out of dust once more.
What changed was the mental attitude and outlook of Adam and Eve, in an attempt to be self-reliant, thereby learning about good and evil.
One could argue it was a necessary process to undergo, for how could they know God is right and faithful without having something to compare it to?

He lost direct relationship with God because he was cast out of the garden of Eden.
The physical change in his body was blood began to circulate in his body. There must have been a physical change because he went from being immortal to mortal. It is not just a thought process, there was a real physical change in his body.
