well a prophecy is a "vision" that is certain and more based on God giving it to a person. But fortunetelling is more like a guess or sometimes real...but through magic. which comes from the devil. One's good, the other's bad. Prophecies come naturally at any given time but only to people that are chosen by God to recieve. You don't choose to have a prophecy. Fortunes don't. sometimes they are revealed to confuse the mind into keep seeing or doing fortunetelling which is a bad thing.

The narrow meaning of prophecy deals with inspired utterances of future events - the difference between such prophecy and fortune-telling is the source and its purpose.

God is the source of prophecy and the purpose of prophecy is for God's glory. Fortune-telling source is heathen and their false gods. The purpose of fortune-telling is done for the individuals benefit.

Note: Only only source of prophecy today is the Bible.

Prophecy is when some one foretold something is going to happen. But he/she has no power over whats foretelling or can access this ability whenever He/she wants. Fortune telling is FAR more ambiguous and claims to be accessible whenever the person chooses to, by rather impossible means, Like Stars position, water vibrations or the lines in your hand.

prophecy comes from god and fortune telling comes from satan. the bible says that if a spirit comes to you with some type of message, to not be decieved and test the spirits, ask it if it is of jesus christ or of something else. if it comes from god then it will tell you that it is of jesus, but if it's of satan, the name of jesus will make ot mad and it will never say that it comes from jesus. thats the only way to really know for sure.

Fortune telling is not of God. Those who do it is in the spirit realm of satan. Everything that God has the devil tries to duplicate. Anyone who does it for money is for self.(fortune money)

Prophecy is of God. It uplifts God in every way. It should be scripture based.

When a religious leader does it, they call it prophesying and its a wonderful, mysterious, and sacred thing; when an ordinary person or a person from some other religious group does it, they call it fortune telling and say it is an evil and misguided thing --- but its essentially all the same.

A Seer, fortune teller or psychic advisor actively seeks out answers while a prophet receives information whether he wants it or not. Often a prophet receives his answers from what he believes is the Divine Itself, but this is often because he simply doesn't know of any other context in which to put it.

No difference. One may be able to predict a projected path, but the future can be altered, course corrections made, and work increased where needed, to make the future better. God wants that for us. God wants us to take responsiblity for our future, since that would be the most moral course.

The Christian Church has put together 2000 or so years of propaganda to try and convince people that magic is different when their god does it.

True biblical prophesying is done by the Holy Spirit, who is God.

"Fortunetelling" is demonic.
