Yes, I believe that people who profess Christianity have a bigger responsibility than the average Joe. This means the person professing this must be sincere and must be a REAL Christian! When I say real, I mean not the type who thinks that being a Christian is just one who goes to church on Sunday! Like I said before, going to a hospital does NOT make me a doctor any more than going to church makes me a Christian! A real Christian shows the love of Christ to those that are in need of that love. We will be judged by how we treat others and there is a day we ALL will stand before the throne to give an account.....real Christians and false Christians included! No person is exempt!
I am sure there are those that profess to know the Lord and know nothing about Him. But God sees the heart. That is why it says in the Bible that the Lord will say to those who are not doing his will, "get away from me, I never knew you".
This is not a reflection on Jesus who taught us to love one another, and to focus on what is important, not being legalistic. Please do not blame him because some people to not follow what he taught!
noils: I am neither a Republican nor am I an African American trying to escape hell on earth! You are putting all of us in a box! That is so wrong!

In my perspective, religion is LITERATURE. Something humans thought they should believe in.
In the time line of human history, one error happened. This is believing in religions. Whatever religion has in it, like for example, Christianity, they have Jesus. Or Wicca , they believe they have powers, etc. Its made up stuff by humans. It so happened that people believe in this because those who made these up actually made the next generations to believe that these stuff are real. The human mind is very imaginative. It can imagine a lot of stuff.
Perhaps, the start of religion in ancient times was really unavoidable since science has not been introduced. but the problem is, even thought, science is there, people still think that there is a "Supreme Being", "Souls" and "Afterlife", all these are literature. Perhaps we can believe in them so that we will have MORALITY . For example, in Christianity, they believe in Heaven and Hell, whoever does bad will go to hell , and when they are there, their souls will be burned and will have everlasting suffering. This is an example of literature, but Christians are made to believe in this so that they will learn to put a line between what is right and what it wrong.
Another thing is the bible, a lot of things are not real in the bible. Some may be but they are historical. But things such as, "Christ rose from the dead" or "Moses crossing the Red Sea" or "Noah's ark" and etc. , those are stories that are made up. MAYBE they happened, but in a more "realistic way"
How can I say it is literature?, Let me throw back that question, how can you say it is not?
Stories about the Supreme beings in religion are not fully proven. Yes people like Jesus may have existed but is it true he rose from the dead? How come this does not occur in our generation? How about Buddha? The one who started Buddhism is Siddharta Gautama, later on the people changed his name to Buddha because they say that he achieved Nirvana, but is there really nirvana? Eternal happiness after we die?
Considering the fact that there are different religions in the world, it is one evidence that religion is purely literature. If there is only one religion in the world, and if all people believe the same supreme being, then may be it is worth believing in, but unfortunately, thats not the case. Religion is really meant for MORALITY. For us to know what is right and what is wrong
So therefore, I conclude that hell is not full of evangelicals since there is no such place.

True Christians know that heaven and hell exists (not exits - altho both are 'exits' from earthly life). And we are told how to get to both. Your second paragraph is contradictory - judging others and whether they go to heaven or hell is anti-Christian and playing god. Rather than play judge and jury of other people and their destinations, search inside yourself. What you believe has absolutely nothing to do with other people. Let's redirect your statement in the third paragraph - "can anyone think of a group of people more presumptuous than a non-Believer?"

If you had expeirienced the Holy Spirit you would feel different. You really would. I pray you recieve that. I know believing in Jesus Christ is all about faith but there is evidence in his Holy Spirit as well. There are things comparable even though nothing does.
Like a headache no one can see it but because everyone gets them and people know what they are everywhere it's obviously believable. I know that's not a good comparison but it does kinda make the point that if people everywhere see things differently and you know something is true the probability is that no one else would believe you without evidence. My evidence comes from Holy Spirit.

Weird, you speak of egotism, yet these "evangelicals" are the ones admitting "I am not worthy, I can't do this on my own, I need Jesus." The agnostic says, "I can handle this myself, I don't need anything or anyone." Seems you need to rethink your definition of egotistic.
And doesn't it make sense to you that if someone truly believes in something, something they feel can help you, they should tell you about it? If I had cancer, and someone had the cure and I didn't know about it, they'd have to be one sick puppy to not let me know about it. Anyone in their right mind would shout to the world "I HAVE THE CURE!!!!!!" There is no sane "evangelical" out there FORCING anything on anyone. If you don't agree with them or their beliefs, say "I don't agree", and go on your merry little way.
And yes, I'm a Christian. You say we have no evidence. You're wrong. How can you tell someone who's life, after 20 years of fighting even for a reason to live, was radically changed and moved the VERY SECOND he stepped off his little soapbox and humbled himself before God? I have evidence every single day, and I'm madly in love with Jesus because of it all.
If you ever want to chat about it, let me know:-)

If you are going to indulge in idle speculation about the afterlife, you're just playing the same game as the fundamentalists, aren't you?

No because of the fact hell is a place of mercy to those whould could no longer face their writer because of the fact thay had rejected him on a similar time as in the international Heaven is a place for those sinners who've been redeemed and who appreciate the presence of their writer. For non believers Heaven could be worse than hell for them. the suitable place for them to be iis hell.have been you detect murderers, thieves, egocentric human beings,,blasphemers.,crooked politicians, cheating legal experts , Bigots, evil dictators .and so on.. down the record.

One major flaw in your logic. You say we can not know. OK, then how do we know about? get my point? how could we know there is a hell, unless some one IE God told us. And if he told us there is a hell, and this, is what it takes to not go there, then I would say he probably knows what he is talking about. Now if you chose not to believe in God, that is your business, but as for me and my house, we will follow the Lord.

Just the 60% of evangelicals who vote Republican and profit monetarily from their faith. I'll give a pass to the other 40%, most of whom are African Americans. They're trying to escape hell on Earth.

evangelicals aren't the only people trying to persuade others to follow their beliefs....the world is full of different religions, different perspectives and different beliefs and each of those different thoughts have their own frontline "evangelicals"....including agnostics
