My moms neighbors dog is mean, she barks at me everytime I try going to my moms house. I can handle it if she stays in front of her own house but she blocks me from entering my moms house. I would understand if she didnt know who I was but I visit my mom at least 3 to 4 times a week. She barks at anyone, not just me and my main concern are my kids and my nephews and nieces! Can I mase her if she's barking at me and I feel like she's about to attack? I saw that show "it's me or the dog" and she used this gadget that made a really loud noise when the dog tried to open the fridge...can i get one that i can carry in my purse and scare the dog away that way she learns not to bark at me when I have every right to visit my own mother?

She has been told by my mom but it's her loser husband that lets the dog out and lets her do whatever she wants. Ok i didnt know i could call animal control unless she actually bit someone. Now I know it's not the case and i'll contact the city about this. But I would still like to know the name of that gadget.

First call your local shelter and find out if there is a leash law-that everyone has the responsibility to keep their dogs secured on their own property or on a leash. I would not report the dog at this point. Next, i would go over to the neighbor's house and talk to the owner of the dog. Tell the owner just what you said here-the dog is aggressive to you and you're worried about yourself and your family being attacked, that the dog is a nuisance, and that there is a leash law and you would appreciate the dog being kept on their own property. AND that you will no longer tolerate this dog's behavior and if the dog is not restrained so that you and your family can safely go into your mother's house, you will take appropriate steps. Give them a week. If the dog is in your mother's yard, then call the pound. If you have no leash law, call the police and tell them you feel threatened. Try to remember it's not the dog's fault, it's the owners. I know the dog is a nuisance, but it's really the owner's that need to be put in the pound and euthanized. I would mention to my mother what I was about to do and why first too. She may have a solution of her own and it is her neighbors. Yes, you have the right to mace the dog on your mother's property but there may be a more peaceful solution but protect yourself above all. If you mace the dog, I would call the pound or the police immediately to protect yourself from a lawsuit. Get a copy of the report, just in case. I just saw the part about the loser husband-confront him and his wife together so that they both understand you mean business. . .

Speak to the neighbour about it. I have a dog that barks at everyone who comes within 50 yards of my house. He's harmless, but he doesn't sound it. I know my neighbours don't like it and he continues to bark at the ones who are scared of him. He ignores the ones who aren't. I spend half my time apologising! Also, he is NEVER allowed out in the open on his own. So he barks, but he doesn't have the opportunity to take it any further. I would be very worried about macing a dog. What if the reaction was fight rather than flight? That would really put your kids at risk. Walk tall, ignore him, and just go about your business in a "boss like" manner.

When dogs are left like that they pick up all kinds of boredom behaviors, barking is one of them. Labs are a high energy dog that require activity. Dogs are social animals and should not be left out side 24/7, tied or in a kennel. Dog ownership is a responsibility,if they don't want to spend time with their dog, then they really don't want one. A dog is a family pet and belongs to be with the family, that is their social system. You can offer to walk the puppy, but I would call the humane society, maybe he will find a family who will love him. Ok somebody kick the soap box.

I don't know the name of the product you are talking about, but you can get Direct Stop. It would be like using mace, but it's less harmful (as it is citronella oil); still highly effective though. We have several bottles in our training room just in case there is an attack. I would buy some and then tell the dog's owners that you have it and will use it to protect yourself and your family. Maybe this will be the incentive they need to control their dog.

On it's me or the dog they use the distracting technique. An way to achieve this is get a small bottle and place a few stones in it then when the dog barks shake it and it will distract it. This is basically a cost free way to stop it. The dog will finally learn bark = loud noise.

Call the cops, the dogs supposed to be on a leash or in the yard behind the gate. The owners will get fined and will learn to keep it tied

It's called a leash law. Most states have them. It means you must control your dog. Try talking to the neighbor and telling them of your concerns. They must keep the dog under control and it sounds like they are not!

If the dog is on your Mom's property, unrestrained, you have ever right to call the pound and have the dog picked up.
