If you have not known, i have been working on trying to make Penguinism, the religion that hates the sins of humanity and wishes to scourge it from the earth in order to make a Eutopia of sorts.

SO WHY ISNT THIS WORKING?!?!?!

PURITANS HAD A SHOT, CHRISTIANS OUTLIVED EVERYONE, EGYPTIANS, BUDDHISTS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE!!

BUT WHY WONT MY RELIGION WORK!?!?!?

Do something magical and get people to follow you. People aren't as gullible as they used to be though, so at best, you will probably just be able to form a cult. You need to create a reason for them to need you. Something like if you don't follow Penguinism, your afterlife will consist of torture. That kind of thing.

Because a) Utopias (p.s. - not spelled "Eutopia") are not possible. If you really knew anything about the Puritans you would know that.
and b) Christianity existed BEFORE Jesus Christ
and c) Jesus Christ is the SON OF GOD, that's how he carried on Christianity. HE WAS SENT BY GOD. You were not. You may have been made by God, but you are not part of the Trinity.
and d) whatever religion you are attempting to create is just a bunch of bs thoughts you are throwing together. So of course in the end it is just a bunch of bs

P.S. - STUDY THE BIBLE!!! YOU DON'T NEED TO CREATE A RELIGION - EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS IN CHRISTIANITY ALREADY.

Your question cynically implies that religions are fairly arbirtary. You seem to think someone just makes up a religion and then people adhere to it.

So why is penguinism not catching on? Perhaps because....

it does not speak to anyone's heart.
it does not inspire anyone.
it does not impel anyone to reform their life.
it does not bring a tear to anyone's eye.
it does not cause anyone to tremble with an experience of the transcendent.
it does not lead anyone to a sense of community with others.
it does not give anyone a feeling that their life has a meaning
it does not convincingly spring from painful soul searching

I could go on and on. But thank you for convincing me that religions, the ones that endure at any rate, are much more than some arbitrary system that someone just makes up.

I suppose you could make it work if you wanted to. Time and truth tells all you know! If you want to create a religion it is going to take a long time and a lot of hard work. You could start by teaching your religion to one person, that one person could teach one more, and it will grow. The problem is that it could take hundreds of years. You will need a firm belief system and I suppose you will have to elaborate on your wishes to "scourge [the sins of humanity] from the earth." If you work out the kinks of your religion and put in lots of hard work and time, maybe in a few years you will have many followers.

If you are following your religion and your believe it, it is already a religion! So it does work! Its just going to take lots of hard work to build up such a strong "church."

It sounds like your motives for making a religion are different than those of your predecessors. The Buddha told people not to do as he did, and not to follow him. But gave them instruction on how to better their lives and those of others. Jesus, similarly, told people about a God that was merciful and loving and tought them piety and virtue. The Puritans were christians btw. They didn't start anything.

It sounds like you are interested in starting a religion for your own vanity, and not because you have a message worth spreading. None of the people you mention had it in their heads that they would start a religion. They just had ideas that were made popular and eventually made religions. You are talking about being popular with your religion.

You may want to try a different hobby.

First off you have to be a: believable
b: charismatic
c: a little more specific. aka Why would I want to convert to your religion. What is it offering me? Every religion wants to make the world a better place. Followers want promises.
Aka eternal bliss in the afterlife. Virgins in heaven. Hell even the worst cults promise something.
Lastly, get rid of the stupid name, Animated kids films have allready abused penguins we don't need a religion named after them.

Anything can be a religion. Religion is when someone or a group of people have a strong belief in something. When you say it's not working, it's because you're not getting support from others, but 1 person can have a their own religion. Tomorrow, i could start a religion about clicky-pens.

Take a look at how some of the more recent religions were formed i.e. Baha'i, Mormonism, and Scientology. Things that would help are a charismatic leader and a very spiritual, mystic approach to living.

Ever hear a story told and it began...Down though the ages...Start with time...you just don't start overnight. Thus you get a "fly by night" religion. One that does not last. It takes time. Lots of time. You mention Jesus but it's been over 3000 years,as for the others some even longer. Time my friend. Time!

There are plenty of Buddhists and Egyptians in the world today. Christians have not outlived them.

Your religion is probably not working because it sounds fairly silly.
