Hi, I write poetry. Recently I was at a gathering and one of the women there was referred to as an artist. She paints faux pas and does interior decorating. She does one stroke painting which I thought to be more like arts and crafts. When others ask about my hobbies and I mention poetry, it's called writing to them. But I thought true art was any form where you pour out your soul and has depth.

What is arts/crafts and what is fine art?

Yes poetry is art.

Art is soul and crafts is skill. Simple, maybe too simple, but in most instances it will do just fine.

It is a form of art -- creating a visual picture with words that
could be put to music and dance. A painter might use poetry
as inspiration, an idea for his/her art.
There are many forms of poetry such as Ballard, Free Verse,
Rhyming, Sonnet, Quatrain etc., and a good poet studies
these many forms.
Its all art whether you use a piece of wood, hammer and nail,
a glass blowing, fabric or canvas brush and paint -- arts/crafts or landscapes, portraits that would be fine art.

Someone asked the question, what is art ? The answer was,
" It can be a white canvas with a black dot in the middle"
Enjoy your poetry -- it's wonderful for the soul.

Don't listen to those stuck up idiots. Do u know what the def/ of a "LINE" is? A line is a point in motion. So drawing is nothing more than lines used to create, a composition.
Writing, is art. When u write, one can create art through words and imagination. So Writing lets the reader make there own vision of what the arthur is trying to be expressed. YOUR JUST AS MUCH OF AN ARTIST AS THOSE OTHER SO CALLED ARTIST. THEY PROBABLY AREN'T EVEN THAT GOOD. I'm an artist and art teacher, take it from me, besides what u create through words they couldn't.

Any type of writing, especially poetry has always been considered an art form. Don't let anybody tell you differently. It takes talent, imagination, and ability to be able to paint pictures with words.

Definitely, so are singers and actors, imo.

I think crafts is if you do art just for a hobby, fine art is if you do it to express yourself in some way.
